Living in Divine Health – 1
Dear Reader,
Welcome to this resurrection month! I pray that whatever is dying in your life and family will receive life in Jesus’ name! This month, we will be examining Living in Divine Health.
According to the World Health Organisation(W.H.O), health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity. Medical Science is primarily concerned with physical and mental health, but God is concerned about our optimal health, which is all-encompassing.
God’s greatest wish for you as a teenager is that you prosper and live in divine health even as your soul prospers (3 John 2:1). Thus, your relationship with God defines how you live in total health, both physically, mentally and socially. It is important to note that Jesus did not only come to the earth to save your soul but also to make you sound physically and mentally. This is why I will be showing you what it takes to live in divine health, and there are promises in Scripture to buttress this truth:
- Physical Health. God promised not to allow the diseases of Egypt (The unsaved world) come upon you if you obey Him, but if you don’t, you open the door for the devil, who is the real author of sickness and diseases, to come in and afflict. The Word says: And said, If thou wilt diligently hearken to the voice of the LORD thy God, and wilt do that which is right in his sight, and wilt give ear to his commandments, and keep all his statutes, I will put none of these diseases upon thee, which I have brought upon the Egyptians: for I am the LORD that healeth thee (Exodus 15:26, see also Exodus 23:25). A healthy body can only be made possible if adequate measures are taken to prevent diseases from attacking the body. The cheapest way to prevent illness is to live a healthy life through personal and environmental hygiene, right dieting, self-examination, exercise and weight control (1 Timothy 4:16).
- Mental Health. Mental illnesses fall under two main categories; Neurosis and Psychosis. While neurosis is the milder form of mental illness, which includes excessive fear, abnormal levels of worry, isolation, unnecessary distrust of even those you should trust and attention-seeking behaviours, psychosis is a serious mental illness that makes a person hallucinate and see things, especially imaginary enemies; talk to invisible people, become violent and may even go naked and run into the streets. Drugs like cocaine, Lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD), etc., tend to produce the same effects.
Thank God for medical science, but it is important to note that psychiatric drugs only help to manage the patient and prevent the unclean spirit from manifesting through him. However, a Holy Spirit-filled Christian, who prays, reads the Bible regularly and obeys all they learnt in a Bible-believing church is unlikely to suffer from mental illness because the Word of God renews, refreshes and restores the soul/mind, which drives away unclean spirit (Mark 9:25). Therefore, meditate and confess the Word regularly. Sing praises unto God (Acts 16:19-21). However, if you are still wallowing in pride, anger, unforgiveness, laziness, covetousness, etc., you are leaving room for unclean spirits to attack.
- Social Health. It is important to address the social health of teenagers because unhealthy social living can cause numerous diseases in the body and affect the mind. A Christian who still maintains a worldly social life by smoking and drinking alcohol can develop diseases like cancer of the lungs and cirrhosis of the liver. As such, this affects their academic performance, and so worry sets in, especially when they are not meeting up to the expectation set by their parents. Therefore, such a habit has to be dealt with, and it has to be done spiritually because some are so addicted that they cannot get off it.
As mentioned earlier, divine health is God’s desire for us, but to enjoy this benefit, you must first accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour. Therefore, if you are not born again, please say this prayer: Dear Lord, I come to You today. I am a sinner. Forgive me my sins. Cleanse me with Your precious Blood. I accept You as my Lord and Saviour. Now, I know I am born again!
Congratulations, you are now born again and a child of God. He loves you and will never leave or forsake you. With this, you are guaranteed all-round rest and peace, in Jesus’ name!
