Making Right Choices – Part 2
Dear Reader,
Welcome to the concluding part of this teaching. In the previous edition, we established that we are created to make choices in life, and these choices either make us successful in every aspect of our lives or otherwise. Therefore, this week, we shall examine one factor that will help us make the right choices: The Fear of God.
Your choice can either be right or wrong. Whichever one, you must accept responsibility for the choices you make. If you want to make the right choices in life, the first thing to do is to fear God. The Word says: What man is he that feareth the LORD? him shall he teach in the way that he shall choose (Psalm 25:12). The fear of the Lord is the yardstick that qualifies you for God’s leading so you can make the right choices in life. However, knowledge of any relevant subject helps you make the right choices. While knowledge is a product of wisdom, wisdom is a function of the fear of the Lord. The Word says: The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding have all they that do his commandments… (Psalm 111:10). Therefore, if you fear God, you will obey His commandments. But you can only access His commandments from the Word.
So, as a teenager, how much of the fear of the Lord do you have? Do you obey God’s commandments? Do you choose to do whatever you like?
To proof you truly fear God, you must do the following:
Love God: As a teenager, if you truly claim to fear God, you must love Him. The Word says: Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind (Matthew 22:37). When you love God, it will reflect in how you handle His matters; how you worship Him with your substance without pressure. Then, you will be able to make right choices based on the principles of the Scripture.
Serve God: If you fear God, you will serve Him. The Word says: If they obey and serve him, they shall spend their days in prosperity, and their years in pleasures (Job 36:11). Service is the master key to the blessings of God. If you are not involved in service, your reward cannot come. The Word says: And ye shall serve the LORD your God, and he shall bless thy bread, and thy water; and I will take sickness away from the midst of thee (Exodus 23:25). So serve God wholeheartedly, and you will begin to make right choices.
Flee from Sin: When you fear God, you will flee away from sin totally, as in the case of Joseph in Genesis 39. The Word says: And she caught him by his garment, saying, Lie with me: and he left his garment in her hand, and fled, and got him out (Genesis 39:12). Joseph feared the Lord and refused to sin against God. The Word also has this to say about him: And Joseph said unto them the third day, This do, and live; for I fear God (Genesis 42:18). In all you do, you must choose the fear of the Lord.
Please note that if you have made mistakes in the past, do not live with a sense of condemnation. No! The past is past. Stop looking backwards if you aim to go forward. The Blood of Jesus will avail for you, and your past will never be used by God to judge your future.
However, you can only have the fear of God if you are a child of God. That is if you have accepted Jesus as your Lord and Saviour. So if you are not born-again, please say this prayer of faith: Lord Jesus Christ, I come to You today. I am a sinner, and I cannot help myself. Forgive me of my sins and cleanse me with Your Precious Blood. Deliver me from sin and satan to serve the Living God. From today, Lord Jesus, I accept You as my Lord and Saviour. Thank You Jesus for saving me! Now, I am born-again.
Congratulations! You are now born-again and a child of God. He loves you and will never leave or forsake you. With this, you are guaranteed all-round rest and peace in Jesus’ name! Please write or call to share your testimonies with me through oyedepofaitha@gmail.com OR 08141320204 and 07026385437.
