The Role of the Woman in Family Finance Part 1
Dear Reader,
Welcome to this exciting month of August. I pray this month will be full of divine surprises for you and your family in Jesus’ name! This month, we will be examining The Role of the Woman in Family Finance.
What is a role? A Role can be defined as the function assumed or part played by a person or thing in a particular situation. It can also be defined as capacity, job, task or work done by someone. Therefore, from creation, God created the woman to be a help that is suitable for the man. The Word says: And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him (Genesis 2:18). So, the woman is ordained to be a helpmeet to the man and her family in all areas, including the family finance.
What is Finance? Finance has to do with the management of large amounts of money.
The woman is responsible for managing the home, including family finances. So, there is nothing like ‘his’ and ‘hers’ in family finance. Therefore, the husband and the woman should have access to each other’s money. Where there is a joint account, no one should spend money without informing the other. At an agreed date, both partners can come together to plan the family budget, mapping out how much should be spent on food, children and each other, as well as paying electricity bills, etc. It is refusing to work together as a team that places families under tension and crisis.
For a woman to fulfil her role effectively in managing family finances, trust between her and her husband is essential. This means they need to have faith in each other to pool their resources and spend money wisely.
Also, there is a need for accountability to help boost their trust. Where no one wants to be accountable to the other, there will be no progress financially.
Some women spend the feeding allowance on clothes and other personal things when their husbands give them money for house keep. The virtuous woman in
Proverbs 31 is trustworthy. The Word says: The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her… (Verse 11). Therefore, a good place to start building up trust in one another is by being open about your monthly income. If you lie about it, you are only opening the way for the enemy.
However, to effectively play your role as a woman, you need help from God, and to access His help, you need to accept Jesus as your Lord and Saviour. So If you are not born-again, please say this prayer of faith: Lord Jesus Christ, I come to You today. I am a sinner, and I cannot help myself. Forgive me of my sins and cleanse me with Your Precious Blood. Deliver me from sin and satan to serve the Living God. From today, Lord Jesus, I accept You as my Lord and Saviour. Thank You Jesus for saving me! Now, I am Born-again.
Congratulations! You are now born-again and a child of God. He loves you and will never leave or forsake you. With this, you are guaranteed all-round rest and peace, in Jesus’ name!
