Making the Right Choice – 2
Dear Reader,
Welcome to the concluding part of this teaching. I strongly believe that at the end of this article, you will make positive decisions that will guide your choice and lead to the glorious home God has ordained for you in Jesus’ name. We shall be examining how to make the right choice in marriage.
These are the Godly attributes to look out for in your spouse:
- Your choice must love God more than he or she loves you, and this must be with evidence.
- He/she must be a man or woman of good character. They must have integrity, humility, empathy, genuine love, meekness, faithfulness, etc. Beauty is only skin-deep, but character goes right to the bone (1 Samuel 16:7). Choose someone who displays Godly characteristics, not just in the good times, but in the bad times as well.
- Watch out for his/her kind nature. Does he/she treat others kindly, or is he/she mean, unremorseful and disrespectful towards others?
- Ensure he/she is pursuing a plan/vision, and make sure you are going in the same direction.
- Ensure to agree on the biblical basis of sound doctrine (1 John. 4:1-6).
How to Choose to the Right Person
- Be Spiritually Sensitive: Do not be carnal about your choice (Romans 8:6). Spirituality helps you know when things are right or out of place, and nothing is hidden from a spiritual man or woman (Philippians 3:15).
- Be Futuristic in your Choice: Look out for someone you are willing to spend forever with. The truth is, some character traits and habits might never change – can you deal with that forever? If you are not going in the same direction or do not have a similar calling/assignment, either of you might not be bad in yourself, but your interest might be contrasting.
- Make the Holy Spirit your Principal Guide: The Holy Spirit is your principal guide in the journey of life. No one knows more than the Holy Spirit. He is able to reveal the intent and heart of every individual, and knows the end from the beginning (John 16:13).
- Prepare Yourself by being the Right Person: Preparation proceeds manifestation and success in life is a function of opportunity meeting preparation. Prepare spiritually, physically and mentally. Improve on the present version of who you are – likes attract.
- Love Yourself: You cannot give what you don’t have (Matthew 19:19). Self-love gives you a platform for loving others. When you love yourself, you will mind your life choices.
- Have Godly Standards and Stick to them: Standards such as salvation status; does he/she pray, attend a Bible-believing church, is he/she filled with the Holy Spirit and does he/she have godly mentors? Know the person’s stands on spiritual matters (Proverbs 24:14). Stick to maintaining a godly relationship, no matter what is happening around you.

- Peace (Psalms 25:12-13)
- Joy (Hebrews 12:2)
- Divine Strength
- Honour (Hebrews 13:4)
- Favour (Proverbs 18:22)
- Increase.
Therefore, it is important to know that creating a happy marriage begins with choosing the right spouse. Choices are the hinges of destiny. Success in marriage is not only achieved through finding the right partner but also through being the right partner.
In your choice of who to marry, you need the help of the Holy Spirit. He shows you things to come, but this can only be revealed to children in the kingdom. If you are not born again, please say this prayer of faith: Lord Jesus Christ, I come to You today. I am a sinner, and I cannot help myself. Forgive me of my sins and cleanse me with Your Precious Blood. Deliver me from sin and satan to serve the Living God. From today, Lord Jesus, I accept You as my Lord and Saviour. Thank You Jesus for saving me! Now, I am Born Again.
