TAME YOUR TONGUE-PART 1
Dear Reader,
Welcome to this new month! It is with great joy I bring God’s Word to you again. I am fully convinced that this piece will impact your life, thereby bringing about the needed changes that will make people sought after you as a youth. This week, we shall be examining Tame Your Tongue!
The tongue is an organ in the mouth, which aids in licking, tasting, breathing, swallowing, and speaking. Tame means to make someone or something subdued, calm or gentle. Studies have shown that an average human speaks minimum of 7000 words per day, of which 80% is about the individual. Words are incredibly powerful; they can build up, encourage and motivate. Words can also tear down, hurt and cause horrible scars. The Bible clearly states: Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof (Proverbs 18:21). Beware of the words you speak because they are seeds; as you sow them, you reap them (Mark 11:23). Your destiny can be framed by the words of your mouth.
Words matter to God, and He keeps a record of our words. Jesus said: But I say unto you, that every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment (Matthew 12:36). So, every word we say, we will account of on the day of judgment. As a youth, choose your words wisely, don’t say, am in the company of my peers and want to feel among and use the same words they are using. Some even go to the extent to give themselves names that their parents did not give them at birth, and as long as they answer to that name, they see themselves behaving in line with the name.
At the time my health was challenged, negative thoughts flooded my mind, but I fought them with the right words and kept declaring faith-filled words, and this contributed in no small measure to my healing. Learn to speak right, and your pain will turn to gain and your pity to envy. The Word says: What man is he that desireth life, and loveth many days, that he may see good? Keep thy tongue from evil and thy lips from speaking guile (Psalm 34:12-13). God has promised to grant the desires of your heart, but you must say only what you want to have. You may desire life, but if you permit your tongue to speak death, you cannot have anything but death (Mark 11:23).
However, the natural man cannot tame the tongue.James 3:8 clearly states: But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. This means only the supernatural man can. You may ask, how? You can only tame your tongue through the help of the Holy Spirit. He will empower you to speak wholesome words at all times. Therefore, to access the help of the Holy Spirit, you have to accept Jesus as your Lord and personal Saviour. If you are not born again, please say this prayer of faith: Lord Jesus Christ, I come to You today. I am a sinner, and I cannot help myself. Forgive me of my sins and cleanse me with Your Precious Blood. Deliver me from sin and satan to serve the Living God. From today, Lord Jesus, I accept You as my Lord and Saviour. Thank You Jesus for saving me! Now, I am Born Again.
