KEEP YOUR FOCUS (2)
Dear Reader,
I count it a great privilege to bring you God’s Word again. I hope you have been putting the lessons you learnt in the last edition to work. May God continue to uphold you in Jesus name.
Today, we shall identify some focus breakers.
- Fear: Someone defined fear as False Evidence Appearing Real. Fear is of the devil. and it hinders you from attaining God’s design for your life. Many youth and singles have become captives of the spirit of fear. They are afraid of the unknown, the future and even the past. You must understand fear is a spirit that the devil uses in tormenting many. The Scripture says For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind (2 Timothy 1:7) Faith is the cure for fear. We can see clearly the evidence of faith in the story of the three Hebrew boys in Daniel 3. They were faced with a life-threatening situation; it was either they bowed to the golden image or lose their lives. However, they neither compromised nor allowed the spirit of fear to take control. They held on to their faith in God and ended up victorious. Understand that Faith in God is never a risk; it is the victory that overcomes the world. (1 John5:4)
- Wong Association: Show me your friend and I will tell you what will become of you. If you associate with a person that lacks focus, you will soon lose focus yourself. Amnon was a friend to Jonadab and ended up losing his life when he listened to the advice of his evil friend. His destiny was cut short by this single act. (2 Samuel 13: 1-15) Whoever wants to be your friend must recognise your God and have regard for your vison and goal. Never move with people who mock or discourage you from serving God or attaining your goal. The Scripture says: Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend (Proverbs 27:17)
- Doubt: It is defined as a feeling of uncertainty. A doubter is a double minded person. The Scripture refers to such people as unstable and cannot amount to anything in life (James 1:8). “Don’t tell God how big your storm is, tell the storm how Big your God is”-Anonymous.
In Genesis 17:15-21, God promised Abraham and Sarah a child, initially, they had their doubts but God established this Covenant and gave them Isaac. With this, Abraham’s trust in God became so great that he was willing even to sacrifice that promised son when God asked. You must understand that your security lies with God and the knowledge of His provision for you from scriptures will stabilise your life.
To remain focused in life, you need to have Jesus in your life. You can accept Him now if you have not done so. If you will like to do this, please say this prayer: “Dear Lord Jesus, I come to You today as a sinner. I believe You died for my sins and rose on the third day. Forgive me of my sins. I accept You as my Lord and Saviour. Make me a child of God today”.
