DISCOVERING YOUR POTENTIALS (2)
Dear Reader,
Peace and blessings in the precious Name of our Lord, Jesus Christ. I welcome to you the second edition in this teaching series and am sure you were blessed and I hope you have started discovering your potentials. In this edition, I shall be sharing with you on: SELF DISCOVERY.
And unto one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one; to every man according to his several ability; and straightway took his journey (Matthew 25:15).
WHAT IS SELF DISCOVERY?
Self-Discovery is the process of becoming aware of one’s true potentials, character, motives and needs. In the journey of self-discovery, it is important to known that it is only through the discovery of self that we can identify our purpose and actualise our potentials. On the other hand, failure to embark on a pilgrimage of self-discovery will not only cheat you of the opportunity to understand who you are and what you want out of life, it could also deny or delay your fulfilment in life.
Your potential is the seed of greatness that will eventually grow into a tree of values. Values are the motive power behind any purposeful action. Values specify a relationship between a person and a goal. Values are also principles, standards of behaviour or one’s judgment of what is important in life.
Values are the set of attributes that you see as important. They are pillars on which your entire life will stand, they define your configuration and disposition to many aspects of life, and they determine how you will respond to the circumstances that come your way as you journey through life
Why Values?
- Personal values determine our behaviour towards life.
- Personal values help shape our decisions and helps us make decisions faster.
- Your personal values checkmate you and ensure you make the right choices.
- Your personal values showcase your uniqueness.
- Your personal values determine how you react to situations.
For instance, let me share with you how value works:
A boy that has time management and punctuality as his value will always strive to go early for classes and will never waste his time playing around
A girl with values of respect for elders will treat her parents and teachers with courtesy and politeness.
A family with values of integrity will always find a way to return any misplaced money or valuable possessions that they find.
A community with values of diligence will avoid illegal ways to success, they will work hard to make a living and despise fraudulent methods acquiring wealth.
Principles of Self Discovery
Like they say,” Rome was not built in a day”. The journey towards personal mastery is a process; therefore, it takes a step by step approach to arrive at your destination. Everyone needs to grow to become the best. Thus, in your journey towards personal mastery, you will need the following principles:
Focus: Always live focused on your goals as there must be something you are working towards at each point in time.
Instruction: You will need mentors, counsellors, teachers and advisors all through your journey in life. These people help guide your journey and provide valuable perspectives that can shape your thinking all through life.
My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings, let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh (Proverbs 4:20-22)
Life-Long Learning: You have to be a life-long learner. Go for tapes, books, conferences, seminars and engage any medium to get knowledge. For you to be relevant, you have to be updated with current happenings. Every two and a half years, 50% of what you know becomes outdated so you must invest a lot of time in studying to remain current and relevant.
Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth (2 Timothy 2:15).
Gratitude: You will need to be thankful at every stage of your journey as it gives you an edge and opens the door to better opportunities.
In everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you (I Thessalonians 5:18).
But, all these can’t be possible without the help of the Holt Spirit and you can’t have the Holy Spirit without being born again. If you are not yet born again and you desire to do so right now, please pray this prayer with faith in your heart: Dear Lord Jesus, I come to You today. I believe You died and rose again for my sake. Forgive me my sins, take over my life, make me Your child and let Your peace reign over my life. Thank you for saving me. Now I know I am born again!
Congratulations, you are now born again! I believe that you will begin to experience the reality of the price that Jesus paid for your sins at Calvary.
