Peace and blessings, in Jesus’ name! It is important you know that as a teen believer who has prospects of becoming great and successful in life, the only way of actualising all that God planned for you is by building your spiritual life. Your spiritual life is what sustains other aspects of your life. Today, in the second edition of this series: ‘Building Your Spiritual Life’. I pray that God will give you insight on how to build your spiritual life in Jesus’ name!
How to Build Your Spiritual Life
As a teenager, lots of questions might be popping up in your mind on how to build your spiritual life. You may have a deep thirst and appetite for the things of God, but the dilemma of how to figure out the steps and patterns to follow may have been the questions on your mind. However, just like one plan to build a house, you build your spiritual life.
Interestingly, being a teenager is an added advantage to you because the Scripture rightly says in 2 Timothy 3:15, And that from a child thou hast known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. The above describes the importance of being rooted in the Word and being spiritual as a teenager. As such, your level of spirituality will enable you to become the best version of yourself, and all you need to know concerning other aspects of your life will be settled.
Grow spiritual habits
Your spiritual life directly affects all other aspects of your life, and this is why you need guidance on how to build a sustainable spiritual life. It is an intentional and conscious act to improve your relationship with God on a daily basis. This includes your day-to-day lifestyle, your dressing, habits, values, and even the company you keep
Psychologists say that what you do constantly becomes a habit, and a habit will eventually turn to become your character (way of life). Proverbs 20:11 says, Even a child is known by his doings, whether his work be pure, and whether it be right. This simply means that all you do from a child is counted by God. So, you can clearly see that God counts your constant and deliberate spiritual activities and habits, and all these adds up to your life and sustain your future.
Catalysts for Growing Spiritual Habits
- Faith: You grow spiritual habits by taking a leap of faith from time to time rather than trying to get perfect from the beginning. This means taking a step of faith and trusting God to provide what may be needed for success. You may not be there yet as you desire; however, believe that your thirst and desire to build your spiritual life will be accomplished.
- Consistency: To make the most of any adventure in life, you must be consistent with letdown principles and goals. Consistency enables mastery. When you constantly practice spiritual habits little by little such as praying, reading the Scripture etc., the more you experience growth.
- Discipline: According to Merriam-webster dictionary, discipline means training that corrects, moulds or perfects the mental faculties or moral character. Therefore, to grow spiritual habits, you must be intentionally disciplined to practice them consistently. Discipline, on the other hand, means to be committed to a given course.
However, you cannot build your spiritual life without first being Born Again. When you give your life to Christ, you will be empowered by Him to grow spiritual habits that will enable you to sustain your spiritual life. If you have not received Jesus as your Lord and personal Saviour, there is a need to take this step of faith by saying this prayer: Dear Lord Jesus Christ, I come to You today. I am a sinner; forgive me my sins and cleanse me with Your Blood. I accept You as my Lord and personal Saviour. Make me a child of God today. Thank You for delivering me from sin and satan to serve the living God, and thank You for accepting me into Your Kingdom.
