Peace and blessings, in Jesus name! God created you in His image and after His likeness; therefore, He is interested in everything that concerns you, including your dressing. I will be teaching the second edition of the series: ‘You Are The Way You Dress’. As you read through this piece, may the light from the Word of God clear off every question in your heart concerning the way you dress, in Jesus name! As I have clearly stated in the first edition, God’s will is that what you wear should present you as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable unto God.
What you Wear Should Glorify God
Whatever you wear should glorify God, and in turn, this will make you experience God’s glory and make you more like God. The Scripture says you are beautifully and wonderfully made (Psalm 149:14). This implies that you have already been beautifully adorned by God; He has made you attractive. So, ensure you are properly dressed because how you dress creates impact; your dressing depicts your personality, and your choice of clothes clearly shows your mood, thoughts and character.
God Cares if you are Using your Money Unwisely on Clothes
Clothing is an area in which many people overspend, and teenagers are not left out of this. However, as a Christian teenager, you must use your money wisely because it ultimately belongs to God. Over time, social media advertises the latest trends of fashionable clothes for all ages, teenagers inclusive. However, as a young person, your priority should not be centred on how many clothes you have, but how much knowledge you should acquire. Instead of spending all your money on clothes or requesting that your parents, friends, uncles or aunties buy you nothing but clothes, always insist on having more books and other relevant materials to build your life and improve your destiny as this will pay you off later in life. It is good to wear good clothes, but it is better to improve your mind through knowledge. My husband once travelled and brought back suitcases; when I asked him what he bought from the trip, he said to me, “Books.” I was astonished, and then he said that the content of these books could make me a manufacturer of the things I could have bought. Please note that the content of the books you have now can make you a manufacturer of the clothes you would have bought in future. Let your focus be on improving yourself, and that is what God desires that your money is spent on. So, pay attention to what you wear and make sure you are honouring God with the choices of clothes you wear and how you spend your money on them. Do not pay too much attention because ultimately, God does not care about what you wear – He cares that you follow Him and trust in Jesus!
It is not Just About your Dressing
People might care about what you wear, but God really does not care at all how you look. He does not care if you are on trend or if you are dressed so expensive or cheap. He does not care if you ever buy a brand name t-shirt or if your shoes are scuffed. It is important to know that God does not recommend or bless you only because you dress in a certain way. He requires that your dressing honours and pleases Him, the quality and quantity notwithstanding. In 1 Samuel, God tells Samuel not to choose a king based on how he looks. He reminds Samuel, ‘The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart’ (1 Samuel 16:17). Therefore, seek to please God by the way you dress because your dressing directly reflects God in your life.
However, the Holy Spirit is solely in charge of teaching and directing your spiritual and physical life. Therefore, you must depend on Him constantly to convict you on what is right and wrong. You cannot have the Holy Spirit when you have not accepted Jesus as your Lord and Personal Saviour. If you want to accept Him, say this prayer with faith in your heart: Dear Lord Jesus Christ, I come to You today. I am a sinner. Forgive me my sins and cleanse me with Your Blood. I accept You as my Lord and personal Saviour. Make me a child of God today. Thank You for delivering me from sin and satan to serve the living God, and thank You for accepting me into Your Kingdom.
Congratulations, you are now born again and a child of God. He loves you and will never leave you or forsake you. With this, you are guaranteed all-round rest and peace, in Jesus name! Call or write to share your testimonies with me through email@example.com OR 08141320204.
