It is with great joy I welcome you into the fifth month of the year. Unity has five-letter words, which shows that God wants to restore unity in your home this month. I have good news for you, this month holds so much good in your homes, families, in the lives of your spouses, children, businesses, finances, health and careers. God’s grace is also sufficient for you to take delivery of all that this year holds, in Jesus mighty name! Today, I shall be sharing with you what I title, ‘Power of Family Unity’.
What is Unity?
According to the dictionary, unity is being together or joined with someone. It is the opposite of being divided. Unity means to be in togetherness or oneness. This is what God intends for you in your family life. A family that is united in spirit tends to achieve more and move faster than one that is not. The Bible says, Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you; but that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment (1 Corinthians 1:10). Also, you must understand that no house divided against itself can stand (Matthew 12:25).
Unity in the family starts with a loving relationship between husband and wife. This will set an example for the family and extend in a personal way to each child in the home. For instance, reflect on a situation whereby a husband and wife have a great idea about something; however, one wants it this way while the other wants it another way, it will definitely lead to a disaster. The Bible says, Can two walk together, except they be agreed (Amos 3:3). It is a known fact that children are products of what they see, much more than what they are told. Being exposed to strive, argument and quarrels in their parents’ relationship exposes them to harsh realities without the maturity to handle them. Some children have taken advantage of the disunity between their parents to manipulate situations to their advantage. When they find out that it works at home, they will try it outside; thus, inevitably becoming schemers, con men and generally the source of most fights between people.
We see clearly from scriptures that there is complete unity in the Godhead. God the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit were in perfect unison in the creation of the universe and all that is in it. The Bible says, And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters (Genesis 1:2).According to that scripture, the Holy Spirit was in action; He ‘moved’ upon the face of the waters. Also, we saw the Son in action in John 1:1-3, In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. The Lord Jesus Christ is ‘The Word’. When God the Father spoke the Word, it was His Son Jesus Christ who acted. Therefore, unity is a prerequisite to making anything work, your family life inclusive.
Unity is God’s nature, and He places high value on unity in the family. We are made in God’s image, and unity should be in our nature. Anything that causes strive in your family cannot be from God but from the devil, who specialises in causing disunity, hatred, quarrels and divisions. Whatever God touches, He unites; whatever satan touches, he divides and destroys. Every plan of the devil in operation in your family causing division is finally over, in Jesus name!
As someone rightly said, unity is strength, and division is weakness. I cannot overemphasise the power that is in family unity. Even the devil knows the power of unity, and that is why he strives to sow seeds of discord amongst family members. The sad thing is that many have given him room in their family; no more, in Jesus name! Understand that no family fighting amongst itself can survive. A football team that intends to emerge the winner in a competition must play with a unity of purpose. Likewise, any family that aims to triumph. Genesis 11:4 is an account in Scripture that shows us the power of unity, although for a wrong course. The people came together to rebel against God and His commandment in Genesis 9:1, to go and be fruitful, multiply and replenish the earth. God recognises the power in unity; hence, He said, the people are one, and if they begin the building, nothing will be able to restrain them from doing so. Imagine if all families were to come together in unity to fulfil God’s commandment in their lives!
However, to enjoy unity in your family, you must accept Jesus into your life. If you are not yet born again, and you desire to do so right now, please pray this prayer with faith in your heart: Dear Lord Jesus Christ, I come to You today. I am a sinner. Forgive me my sins and cleanse me with Your Blood. I accept You as my Lord and personal Saviour. Make me a child of God today. Thank You for delivering me from sin and satan to serve the living God, and thank You for accepting me into Your Kingdom.
Congratulations! If you prayed this simple prayer of faith with me, you are now born again and a child of God. He loves you and will never leave you.
