I thank God for the great privilege He has given us to see another wonderful month. There is no doubt that the Lord has been doing marvelous things in our lives since the year began. My prayer is that before the end of this month, the Lord will supernaturally turn things around in your home, in Jesus name! Today, I will be sharing with you what I title, ‘The Homemaker’.
Who is a Homemaker?
A homemaker is one who makes a home. Homemaking is so much more than just doing laundry, making meals and decorating. It is all about creating a place where family and friends can encounter truth, goodness, beauty and a sense of belonging. It is about showing the love of Christ to all who enter our doors. Being a good homemaker means you give thought and care to the wellbeing of your home and family members. Homemaking is the deliberate cultivation of beauty and productivity in family relationships. Homemaking is about helping your family feel loved and comforted. A home fulfils the family’s needs for comfort, privacy, health, safety and security. The home always reflects the quality and characters of individuals. However, the success and happiness of the family depend on the qualities of the homemaker. The homemaker has great responsibilities in running the home smoothly and efficiently. Therefore, other members of the family must understand their roles in home management and co-operate with the homemaker in every sphere. Anyone can keep a house, but not everyone bothers to make a home. God will help you to make a home in Jesus name!
Attributes of A Homemaker
- A homemaker’s priority is her home(Titus 2:4): Homemakers do not need to spend all their time at home, yet the home should be their primary focus. The home and family should be the primary focus for all Christian parents. The virtuous ideal woman of Proverbs 31 did not spend all her time at home; she was buying and selling land and taking her goods to the marketplace. However, all the things she did were in service to her family.
- A homemaker creates a space that is peaceful and secured (Isaiah 32:18): Homemakers are called to create a gathering place that is peaceful and secured. We need to train up our children with discipline and self-control so they can be peaceful. Homemakers are called to create a place of welcome for their children and others. We are called to create a space where people can come just as they are and be loved just for being a child of God.
- Homemaking creates fellowship and communion (Acts 2:46): It was the practice of the early church to meet in each other’s homes daily for worship, fellowship and communion. So, our homes should be a place for the gathering of the body of Christ, not once or twice a year for a party but on a regular basis. A homemaker seeks to cultivate a space filled with glad and sincere hearts. A homemaker seeks to build fellowship and communion with other Christians.
- A blessed home reflects our heavenly home (Psalm 84:1-4): Our perfect home is in heaven, and our homes will always be imperfect compared to the Lord’s home. I love how the dwelling of the Lord is not described as an impressive or perfect palace; instead, the Bible tells us it is a house in which even a bird is welcome to make a nest for her babies. God creates an incredible space of welcome. Are we creating homes where we focus on the loveliness of heaven? Do hearts cry out for the living God? Our greatest desire as homemakers should be that our homes reflect the character and feel of God’s home. A large part of being a homemaker is knowing how to manage your time, limits, finance, establishing goals, and most importantly, creating time for God.
However, all of these cannot be achieved without having a personal relationship with God. Are you born again? If not, pray this prayer of salvation with me: Dear Lord Jesus Christ, I come to You today. I am a sinner. Forgive me my sins and cleanse me with Your Blood. I accept You as my Lord and personal Saviour. Make me a child of God today. Thank You for delivering me from sin and satan to serve the living God, and thank You for accepting me into Your Kingdom.
Congratulations, you are now born again and a child of God. He loves you and will help you in your marriage. With this, you are guaranteed sufficient grace to be a good homemaker!
