Peace and blessings, in Jesus name! Welcome to this new edition where God wants to open up your understanding of who you truly are in Christ. As you read through this, expect to have a change in every negative idea you have about yourself and embrace your new identity in Jesus name!
What is Identity?
Many descriptions might pop up in your head. Some may include your nationality, ethnicity, job title, economic status, marital status, or even educational level, just to name a few. The fact is, we are all of those things; however, the greater truth is that as believers, we are children of God – the creator of the universe.
According to Collins Dictionary, identity means the character that distinguishes one from others. When you receive Christ, there will be a change in your life. For instance, I gave my life to Christ as a teenager when I was about fifteen years of age, this brought about a total change in my life and everything about me was transformed. This implies that when you receive Christ, there will be a total restructuring of life; you will become a new creation, the grace of God sets you apart and distinguishes you in all ramifications.
As a teenager, discovering your identity in Christ is life-changing. Knowing who you are in Christ changes every bit of you and the perception of others about you because the fruits you bear will be likened to the same fruits as Christ. This enables you have a deeper understanding of God and His Word.
Lies About Your Identity in Christ
The devil feeds you with lies about who you are in Christ, and he makes you see the negative things about you, which are not what God made you to be. The devil comes with the lie that you are not enough, and you need to become someone else to feel wanted and approved. As a result, you seek validation from your peers and then, the pressure to join the world sets in. This is a lie from the pit of hell! God has made you enough, and that is why He has created you in His image and likeness (Genesis 9:6b).
Perhaps, you feel you are not valued, loved, preferred or distinguished. Please do not feel so because the love God has for you caused Him to die for you at the cross of Calvary (John 3:16). You have been chosen of God, and He has set you apart for a greater destiny and a distinguished identity. The Bible buttressed this fact in 1 Peter 2:9, …ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him that who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light. Therefore, in Christ and by faith, you are distinguished, set apart, treasured, loved, forgiven and chosen by God. Your identity in Christ cannot be changed or messed up. So, embrace your identity; you are the best version of yourself and distinguished to glorify God here on earth.
However, it is important to know that you cannot embrace the new identity you have in Christ if you have not received Jesus as your Lord and personal Saviour. Therefore, if you have not, there is a need to take this step of faith by saying this prayer: Dear Lord Jesus Christ, I come to You today, I am a sinner. Forgive me my sins and cleanse me with Your Blood. I accept You as my Lord and personal Saviour. Make me a child of God today. Thank You for delivering me from sin and satan to serve the living God, and thank You for accepting me into Your Kingdom.
