TAME YOUR TONGUE!
Dear Reader,
It gladdens my heart each time I have the privilege of bringing God’s Word to you, I am convinced that this piece will speak volumes to your life and establish that exotic lifestyle that God expects of you as you put this lesson to work in Jesus name. I have an interesting piece for you today which I titled Tame Your Tongue!
Before I proceed I want to define some important terms in this topic for easy understanding and assimilation.
Tongue
The tongue is a muscular organ in the mouth. It is covered with moist, pink tissue called mucosa. The tongue is vital for chewing and swallowing food, as well as for speech.
Tame
Tame as described in oxford learner’s dictionary refers to when an animal is being domesticated. It connotes someone or something being subdued, boring or mild.
These above definitions will clearly give you a better understanding of what this topic entails. I came across a statistic that marveled me, it says women speak an average of 20,000 words a day vs. 7,000 words for men. This implies that women speak more than men, and have the tendency of altering several words which can be an impediment in the family.
Our Words Matter
Words are incredibly powerful. They can build up, encourage, and motivate. Words can also tear down, hurt, and cause horrible scars. Do you remember the saying, “Sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me.” This is not true; words can hurt and so many are living with the scars of the hurtful words of others. The Bible clearly states, Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof (Proverbs 18:2).
Words matter to God and He keeps a record of our words. Jesus said, ” But I say unto you, that every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment.” (Matthew 12:36). Jesus spoke plainly about our use of words. He tells us, “we will account for the use of every careless word on the day of judgment. We often condemn profane and vile uses of the tongue, but make light of idle words. We sometimes use words carelessly, without concern for their impact on others. We assume that the sins of our tongue are minor sins, and that God will overlook. Jesus was fully aware of the devastating nature of our words, hence His admonition to us in the use of the tongue.
The Bible in James 3:2 says, For in many things we offend all. If any man offend not in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to bridle the whole body. What would constitute a perfect home according the above scripture is a perfect tongue!
What is a perfect tongue?
It is a tongue that selects what it says and one which speaks the truth of God’s word, rather than the negative facts of life. Psalm 34:12-13 made it clear that, What man is he that desireth life, and loveth many days, that he may see good? Keep thy tongue from evil and thy lips from speaking guile”. God has promised to grant the desires of our heart, you must therefore say only what you want to have. You may desire life, but if you permit your tongue to speak death you cannot have anything but death why? This is because Jesus said in Mark 11:23 …he shall have whatsoever he says”.
You must understand that the natural man cannot tame the tongue, James 3:8 clearly states, but the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. This means that, only the supernatural man can “How” you may ask? It is through the help of the Holy Spirit that we can tame our tongue. The Holy Spirit will empower you to speak wholesome words at all times.
To enjoy the help of the Holy Spirit, you have to accept Jesus as your Lord and personal Saviour. If you want to accept Jesus into your life right now, with faith in your heart, please say this prayer: Dear Lord Jesus Christ, I come to You today. I am a sinner.
