Tips For A Happy Home

Dear Readers,

You are welcome to December – The month of Christmas. The true spirit of this season is to bring joy to individual families all over the world and to mankind at large.  This joy cannot be traced to man but God, the Giver of life.  To Him alone be all the glory!

As we all know, we are in a festive mood and it is important for us to look at the things that make for a happy home. Home and family life is an exciting experience; it is not a necessary evil. God delights in it.  It is meant to be one of the most exciting parts of your life, as a child of God. But know that excitement or happiness doesn’t fall on you because you are a Christian. No! You program yourself for it. You create it!

This segment, I want us to see how to get the best of times in our family life. The Bible says: The spirit of a man will sustain his infirmity; but a wounded spirit who can bear? (Proverbs 18:14). It is joy on the inside that brings out the best in a man. Happiness in your home will bring out the best in your wife, husband and children alike. A sorrowful heart is dangerous. Nothing good comes the way of the dejected. God’s Word says: A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones (Proverbs 17:22).

Happiness is a state of enjoyment, showing satisfaction or joy. It is also marked by pleasure. When you are happy, in most cases, your disposition is characterized by laughter. Joy surges out from within you; you laugh. Laughing is a feeling of triumphant or exultant sense of well-being. When you are genuinely happy, no one needs to ask you. You just flow in it, and it shows.

When there is no happiness in a home, the family members are prone to all sorts of sicknesses and diseases. Stay happy and make every member of your family happy, thereby staying away from hospital bills, or spending your money and resources on drugs, and medical bills. God’s Word says: Wisdom is profitable to direct. My family members and I will rather choose to stay happy and be drug-free.

This season of celebration, let the high praises of God flow out of your heart and mouth at all times. Listen to the Word of God, put on Christian music, sing praises to God and make your home a praise centre. Remember, depression is the visa for oppression. Stop protesting; start progressing. Create happiness around you. Don’t wait for it; work it out. God does fearful things in praises (Exodus 15:11; Psalms 22:3). Let your home be a habitation of God Almighty. Remember, praise is a spiritual wood! Keep your family in the Spirit of praise and the earth shall continually yield her increase to you.

We just have few days to Christmas and you may be wondering about what your family will eat and wear. The Lord says you should not think about them. Refuse to be anxious. When anxiety knocks on the door of your heart, speak the Word of God that is relevant to that situation. God’s Word has an answer for us, on how we should behave when anxiety sets in. Matthew 6:31-32 says: Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed?  (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.

The enemy always uses anxiety to steal your joy, kill your peace and destroy your confidence in God. The Word of God says: The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly (John 10:10). But as he comes, Jesus also comes to supply more joy, more peace and more confidence in God!  Anxiety-causing situations will arise, but what it takes to overcome them is already deposited within you. Jesus has given you power and authority over all situations and circumstances (Luke 10:19).

Maybe you have been trusting God for a lot of things since the beginning of the year and they are not forthcoming the way you expect. You don’t need to worry my brother and sister; the year has not ended yet. Understand that it doesn’t take time for God to perform a miracle.  All you need to do now is to rejoice and be glad, and let God do what He knows best for you. God’s Word instructs us to always rejoice, no matter the situation. Habakkuk 3:17-18 says: Although the fig tree shall not blossom, neither shall fruit be in the vines; the labour of the olive shall fail, and the fields shall yield no meat; the flock shall be cut off from the fold, and there shall be no herd in the stalls: Yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will joy in the God of my salvation. Without joy, you cannot draw from the well of salvation. The well of salvation is full of God’s blessings; think of it.

I don’t know the kind of blessing you are looking for.  It could be healing, fruit of the womb, miracle job, etc; they are all in this well. So, it is time to put on the garment of praise and let God intervene in your situation.

Never point an accusing finger at God on anything. Rather, thank Him in that situation. Remember, it was thanksgiving that brought Lazarus out of his grave (John 11:41-44). If you want to come out of that grave of poverty, childlessness, sickness and disease, lack and want, fill your heart and mouth with praises. Let the people praise thee, O God; let all the people praise thee. Then shall the earth yield her increase; and God, even our own God, shall bless us. God shall bless us; and all the ends of the earth shall fear him (Psalm 67:5-7). Give God quality praise and your increase will begin to come.

The source of happiness is Christ. To experience joy unspeakable all round, you must be born again. To be born again entails confessing your sins and accepting Jesus as your Saviour and Lord.  If you are ready to be born again, please say this prayer:  “Dear Lord Jesus, I come to You today as a sinner. Forgive me of my sins. I believe You died and rose on the third day for my sins.  I accept You as my Lord and Saviour.  Make me a child of God today. Thank You for accepting me into Your Kingdom.”

Congratulations, you are now born again! I believe that you will begin to experience the reality of the price that Jesus paid for your sins at Calvary. All-round rest and peace are guaranteed you in Jesus’ Name! Even though the source of happiness is christ, however, happiness in marriages is determined by our readiness and willingness to follow known principles that make for a happy marriage. Our marriage is as good or bad as we make it. If you are not willing and ready to pay the prize for a happy marriage, happiness may be far from your marriage.
