THE RIGHT FOUNDATION FOR A SUCCESSFUL MARRIAGE (2)
I know this column has been a great blessing to you. We have looked extensively at two things that will help you in laying the right foundation for the successful marriage you desire. We have seen that you must first desire a partner, locate and apply God’s Word that matches your desire. Today, I will be teaching on: Engaging the Forces of Prayer and Thanksgiving
Prayer is a communication process that allows you to talk to God! After you have located the appropriate Word from scriptures, then, you talk to God about it in prayers. Choosing a life partner is crucial; it is a lifetime decision in which God’s intervention is needed. The Word of God says: Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in Him; and he shall bring it to pass (Psalms 37:5). You must understand that God knows what you don’t know. He knows the beginning from the end. You must come to Him in prayers with an open spirit and be confident of His love for you; He knows your end from the beginning and wants the best for you. Therefore, prayer is a major way of ensuring God’s involvement in a matter. However, for your prayers to be effective, you must take note of the following:
- Pray in faith
Praying in faith is the key to answered prayers. The Bible says But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord. Praying without faith is of no substance, when we pray in faith, you are simply telling God that He can and will do as you have asked. After you have asked in prayers according to the will of God, refuse to doubt; rather, be confident that you have received an answer to your petition (I John 5:14).
- Be specific in prayers
Tell God the kind of partner you want. The Bible says Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not (Jeremiah 33:3). Identify your God-given vision in life and ask God for a partner that will complement that vision. We have the assurance from Scripture that everyone that ‘asketh recieveth’ (Mathew 7:8).
Some people express the fear that God may give them someone they do not want when they commit everything unreservedly into His hands. So, they do not pray at all about it. This kind of thinking shows that the individuals concerned are not confident about God’s love for them. They see God as wicked and are not sure of His ability to be a Father unto them. Look at this scripture: If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him? (Matthew 7: 11). Just as no earthly parent will give a harmful thing to the child, God cannot give you anything that is harmful to your life. God is more loving than our earthly parents. Therefore, be sure, God will give you a partner after His own heart.
The next step is to water your prayers with thanksgiving. By giving thanks you show your dependence on God. The Bible says: In everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you (I Thessalonians 5:18). Let your faith be intact and your confession fall in line. Give thanks always if you believe that God heard your prayers. After giving God thanks, be patient and before long, you will see the manifestation.
God is only committed to answering the prayer of His Children. If you will like to become His child, you can invite Him into your life right now. Please say this prayer: “Dear Lord Jesus, I come to You today as a sinner. I believe You died for my sins and rose on the third day. Forgive me of my sins. I accept You as my Lord and Saviour. Make me a child of God today”.
