THE PURPOSE OF SINGLENESS (1)
Peace and blessings, in Jesus name. It is with great delight that I bring God’s Word to you today. May you be imparted by this Word, in Jesus name.
The Bible says, To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven (Ecclesiastes 3:1). There is a purpose for this ‘single season’ of your life. This period is a gift from God which many others wish they could recall. According to Myles Munroe, “Singleness is the most important state of human development.” Therefore, to fully utilize this precious time of your life, you must know the purpose.
Understand that God has put certain deposits in you to enhance your usefulness while single. It is the prime of your life and should be very useful and purposeful days. The question is how useful are you? Let us show you some ways to make this period of your life count.
- Strength:
From scripture, we understand that the glory of young men is their strength (Proverbs 20:29). God expects you to channel this unusual strength positively and correctly. Your physical strength is at its best in the days of your youth, while you are still single and with this unusual strength, you can easily pursue your vision and be most useful.
- Passion/Zeal
During your single days, your level of passion and zeal to serve is usually very high (Ecclesiastes 12:1). While single, you can be very devoted and enthusiastic to a cause. This high level of passion or zeal is there to help pursue and make full use of your God-given purpose in life.
There are many examples of singles in Scripture who made good use of the zeal they had for God to accomplish great things. David’s passion for God helped him kill Goliath. Joseph’s zeal for God would not allow him compromise his faith, and he eventually became the prime minister. This zeal or passion when channeled properly will bring about great feats in life.
- Work
The Bible says, It is good for a man that he bear the yoke in his youth (Lamentation 3:27). The best time for you to work is while you are single. This should affect every area of your life – spiritual, physical, mental and emotional. This is a time to work on your spiritual life. Take time to study and meditate on God’s Word and other relevant materials. Spend time in prayer and serve God wholeheartedly. Also, build yourself physically. You must present your body unto God as a living and acceptable sacrifice. Your body is the temple of God, keep it holy, free from every form of contaminants.
It is also a time to build yourself up mentally; develop skills. Develop yourself in your chosen field of endeavour. Your single days are an opportunity to exhibit the qualities you want in the future. Until you develop your mind, your world will never mind you.
Another area you need to develop yourself is in the area of your emotions. This is the period to develop your capacity to accommodate other people. Life is all about giving, not just receiving. As a single, you should learn how to be tolerant and to handle issues with your emotions under control. Your emotions should not control you, rather you should control them.
- Ideas
Your mind at this period is still young and void of unnecessary worries, concerns and anxiety. The Bible says And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions. We are in the days of great inventions and innovations among the youth and singles. As a godly single that possesses the mind of Christ, you can think and add value in diverse areas of life. Remember the story of the three (3) Hebrew boys in Daniel chapter 3 and how they did exploit.
Your worth and value in life determines your usefulness. By seeing yourself the way God sees you, you will be able to add colour to your world.
To have a successful single life, you need Jesus in your life. You can accept Him now if you have not done so. If you will like to do this, please say this prayer: “Dear Lord Jesus, I come to You today as a sinner. I believe You died for my sins and rose on the third day. Forgive me of my sins. I accept You as my Lord and Saviour. Make me a child of God today”.
