THE POWER OF WISDOM
It gladdens my heart each time I bring you the Word of God, His word is a lamp unto our feet and a light to guide our paths (Psalm 119:105). It is the will of God to guide us through life that is why He sends His words each day to brighten our paths through life. Today, I will be teaching on the topic: The Power of Wisdom.
The Bible state in Proverbs 4:7, Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding. Hence, wisdom is the most important tool in the school of life. You are expected to walk, live and act in wisdom. It is important to understand what wisdom is because it does not come by chance; it is acquired.
Concept of Wisdom
According to Jack Wellman, wisdom isn’t simply intelligence or knowledge or even understanding. It is the ability to use these to think and act in such a way that common sense prevails and choices are beneficial and productive. However, wisdom is an attribute of God, He is wisdom Himself, no wonder the Bible in James 1:5 says, If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. This simply means that God is wisdom and He alone can give it to anyone who desires to acquire it.
Wisdom is the nature of God, according to the book of Genesis, the world was created by the wisdom of God. It is important to understand that all that ever existed, existing and yet to exist comes from the wisdom of God. So, whenever you think about wisdom, you look at God as wisdom. Wisdom is God’s supreme intelligence, knowledge, understanding, might and counsel. Wisdom gives value to every other force of life. Wisdom lightens everything under the earth, she gives ease. She proffers solution to questions of life. Wisdom is having the knowledge of what to do at all times, endless resolution for everything. It is important to know the attributes of wisdom as follows:
Ecclesiastes 10:10 states that, …wisdom is profitable to direct. The peculiar thing about wisdom is direction, it will direct your paths on what to do and how to do them. There is no error in wisdom. Wisdom of God gives you the compass for living. When your life seems to go crooked, seek for the wisdom of God because He will show you the way which you should go.
The wisdom of God instructs and cautions, it instructs one on what’s right to do and what’s wrong to do. It protects the heart, mind and conscience to learn, act, walk, and talk in the way of the Lord. Wisdom is what enables us not to fall into iniquities or fall into temptations or drastic mistakes that can be costly. God uses His wisdom to instruct us to save us from troubles and teach us what and how to act better.
Wisdom elevates one. For example, Solomon was a man filled with wisdom that nations came from far to hear from his wisdom (1 Kings 4:34). Where there is wisdom you will certainly find greatness, it takes wisdom to be great and men of wisdom attracts great people and great men too.
Wisdom Ignites Diligence
Wisdom ignites diligence. Scripture says, If the iron be blunt, and he do not whet the edge, then must he put to more strength: but wisdom is profitable to direct. The labour of the foolish wearieth every one of them, because he knoweth not how to go to the city (Ecclesiastes 10:10, 15).
Wisdom establishes skillful efforts of accomplishing a required task, goal or mission. Works outside of wisdom wearies the heart according to the above scripture. This connotes that the only diligence that produces result is one done with wisdom because wisdom will tell you how, what, when and where to invest your strength so as not to work and labour in vain.
Types of Wisdom
Earthly wisdom does not understand what heavenly wisdom means, it seeks fulfilment of the flesh. It is characterised by the roots of jealousy and selfish ambition. Thus, it is the result of inordinate desires for things that do not belong to us or from a lust for power. It is engrossed with the works and selfishness of man. The Bible describes this type of wisdom in James 3:14-16 thus, But if ye have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, glory not, and lie not against the truth. This wisdom descendeth not from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish. For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work.
This is the wisdom often classified with common sense. And it often comes from intellectual prowess, but this wisdom has its defects because it is totally incomplete.
This is a wisdom that comes from the devil. Just like the name is, there is no good thing about it because nothing good comes from the devil. This wisdom is characterised by evil and devilish activities.
The heavenly wisdom is the wisdom from above and the wisdom of God. It is characterised by all the works of the Spirit seen in Galatians 5:22-23, But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. It instigates the bid to do the right things and it is full of excellence.
It is pertinent to note that it is impossible to acquire the heavenly wisdom without the help of the Holy Spirit, and you cannot have access to the Holy Spirit without having a relationship with Jesus; therefore, I urge you to accept Jesus as your Lord and Personal Saviour to enjoy the unlimited power that is in the wisdom of God. You can say this prayer of faith: Dear Lord Jesus Christ, I come to You today. I am a sinner. Forgive me my sins and cleanse me with Your Blood. I accept You as my Lord and Saviour. Make me a child of God today. Thank You for delivering me from sin, pride, arrogance and self-pity and all the lies of satan to serve the living God and thank You for accepting me into Your Kingdom, in Jesus name! Amen.
