Dear Reader,

Grace and peace be multiplied, to you in Christ Jesus. Last time, I shared with you two of the enemies of a peaceful home which are Satan and sin. In this segment, I will be teaching on The Requirements For A Peaceful Home.

The Fear of the Lord

‘Fear’ in this context is not talking of being afraid. Rather, it connotes respect and reverence to God and His Word. Let whatever He says, be your guiding principle. As a man, and the head in the home, if you will walk in the understanding that you have a Head, who takes account of your doings, you will hold Him in reverence and respect. Whatever He tells you to do, you will do it without questions or grumbling.

As the wife, even though you have your husband as the head, you know that, ultimately, God is your head; you will hold His commandments in awe. Rather than seeing yourself as being subjected to your husband only, you see yourself as obeying the commandment of God through your husband, thereby reverencing God and His Word. This is the fear of the Lord. As you do these, your children watch and learn from you. Secretly, they are proud to have a God-fearing mother, and they in turn learn to obey God and keep His Word.

Walk in God’s Ways

You cannot walk in God’s ways, except you respect and reverence Him. When He says, “Turn to the right,” you don’t turn to the left. When He commands you to wait, you don’t get impatient and move. You must do what He says or commands.

The Love of God

This is the first commandment, and God reiterates it here, that He requires your love. Love God in all your doings, towards your spouse, children and all around you. The love of God will reflect in your action, your types of friends, the places you go and the things you say. If you love God, you will keep His Word (John 14:15).

Serve God

God does not only require you to fear, love and walk with Him, He also requires you to serve Him. How? With your heart, means and time. You can’t genuinely serve somebody you don’t love. When your love is in place for God, you will willingly serve Him with your being.

Study the Word of God

It is very important for you and the member of your family to study the Word of God. The Word of God is simply the manual for living. The peace you need in your family, is in the Word of God. When you give in to the Word of God in your home, and the light of God gains access, the devil will not find his way there. It becomes impossible for darkness to penetrate. You will become master over darkness (2 Tim. 2:15).

Be Prayerful

Prayer generates power, and that is what you need to subdue any intruder in your marital territory (Psalm 66:3). Luke 18:1 says: And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint. Let me quickly state here that the word “men” in this verse, is not referring to the male gender as it were, but to the generality of humanity. So, if you are a woman, don’t push the responsibility of prayer to your husband and say, “I am not a man, so that scripture is not for me.” Prayer is the responsibility of every member of the family, if you must have perfect peace in your home.

Jesus said: … Men ought always to pray and not faint. In essence, there will be situations and circumstances that will try to make you give up, but if you have set your mind on having absolute peace in your home, in spite of the devil, you will appreciate the injunction in the Bible which says, Pray without ceasing (1 Thess. 5:17).

To have peace in your home, you need to first and foremost surrender life to the Prince of peace. This can be possible when you confess your sins, repent of them and accept Jesus as your Lord and Saviour. If you are ready for this experience, could you please say this prayer?

Dear Lord Jesus, I come to You today as a sinner. I believe You died for my sins and rose on the third day. Forgive me of my sins. I accept You as my Lord and Saviour. Make me a child of God today.
