SUBMISSION: THE BIBLE WAY (I)

Dear Reader,

I want to specially welcome you to this wonderful and fulfilling month, and I pray that your expectations for your family since the year began, will be gloriously materialized this month! Also, I welcome you to another glorious time of learning through the Word of God. This month, I will be taking you through the subject, Submission: The Bible Way.

In this edition, I shall define submission according to the Word of God. Also, I shall be considering the act of total submission and vital keys to total submission.

What is Submission?

Submission, as defined by the Oxford Advanced Learner’s Dictionary, is the willingness to show obedience or yield to the authority of others. This act of submission does not make you weak or foolish; it just means that you obey all that God has commanded you to, by willingly submitting yourself to the authority of your husband.

As it is written: Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body. Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing (Ephesians 5:21-24).

Wives are commanded to submit to their own husbands in everything. This means that partial submission has no reward, as it can be termed as disobedience. When disobedience is sown, it can destroy your marriage. Moreover, total submission attracts a full reward from God and your husband, because it gives the husband an opportunity to fulfill his covenant responsibilities towards you.

It is very important for you to know that the Word of God is the final authority on everything for the church, and obedience is key to deriving the benefits in the Word. The Bible says the commandments in the Word are not grievous; therefore, the grace to obey them has been made available to you.

Submission covers all area of your life even in finances, as you must be obedient in everything. As couples, two must become one in all areas. Don’t hide your money from him. Giving him your body, while hiding your money from him, makes you a harlot.

To attain total submission, your thoughts, words and actions towards your husband must be right. One key you can employ to help your thought life, is to watch what you spend your time reading and listening to, what you feed your eyes and the company you keep. You must purpose to separate from and sever all links with people and books that teach values contrary to those in the Word of God.

We were told in the Scripture that, Sarah obeyed her husband Abraham, honouring him as head of the house.  When you do same, you will be following her steps like a good daughter and doing what is right. This in turn will attract the blessings of God upon you (Isaiah 51:2).

Furthermore, there are important things you must understand about submission. It majorly has four components, namely: humility, obedience, respect and love.

I have discovered that pride hinders so many women from submitting to their husbands. You must know that pride is destructive and must not be haboured (1 Peter 5:5). Also, obedience and respect are principal requirements in submission. This is because a husband you cannot obey and respect, you will likely not submit to. Remember, your husband needs to be loved, so you must learn to keep showering him with love on a daily bases. That way, you make your home successful (Titus 2:4).

We must know that submission dwells on some vital keys, which are:

It is first to God:

Before a woman can submit to her husband, she must first learn to submit to God. The Bible says, Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God (Ephesians 5:21) The Amplified Bible says …Out of reverence for Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed One).

As a woman, if you have reverence for God and you submit to Him in all areas of your life, you can genuinely submit to your husband. The degree to which you yield yourself to the commandments of God, will determine the degree to which you will yield to your husband. When you are ready and eager to obey God’s commandment to submit to your husband, then you are ready to eat the good of a successful home (Isaiah 1:19).

Submission is of the Heart:

Until submission takes root in your heart, it does not last. If you are really submissive, it will flow from your heart. Women, make your hearts tender for the Word of God to have effect. Women who battle with submission do so, because God’s Word has not yet gained entrance into their hearts.

It must reflect in your thought, words and actions:

As a woman, how do you address your husband? By your choice of words, you can drive your husband far from you or closer. If you use your words correctly, you can bring yourself into favour with your husband. I see you enjoying favour with your husband from today in Jesus’ name.

You need God’s grace for obedience, which is only available, by being connected to Jesus who is an embodiment of obedience. You do this by accepting Jesus as your Lord and Saviour. If you are not yet born again and want to be, say this prayer in confidence and sincerity: Lord Jesus Christ, I come to You today, I am a sinner. I cannot help myself. Forgive me of my sin. Cleanse me with Your Blood. Deliver me from sin and Satan to serve the living God. I believe You died for me and on the third day, You rose that I might be justified.  I accept You as my Lord and Saviour.  Make me a child of God today.  Thank You for accepting me into Your Kingdom.

Congratulations! You are now born again! All-round rest and peace are guaranteed you, in Jesus’ Name. Call or write, and share your testimonies with me through contact@faithoyedepo.org, and conselling@faithoyedepo.org; OR 07026385437 and 08141320204.
