We will be having the best of time this month, by looking at right choices and happiness in preparation for marriage. I want you to know that marriage is one of God’s most wonderful gifts to mankind. It is a treasure worth working on, cherishing and sustaining. His instructions are as valid today as ever. To follow them is to make the honourable, godly choice.
In this first segment, I will be looking at the Importance of Choice and Your Destiny. Choice is the act of selection, especially of the best part or alternative. It is also defined as the power and privilege of free selection, careful selection without compulsion and after due consideration. God’s Word says: I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life that both thou and thy seed may live (Deuteronomy 30:19).
Whatever or wherever you are today, is a product of the choices you made yesterday. Daily, you and I are confronted with choices that have to be made – to pray or not to pray, what to pray about, what to eat, wear, where to go, what to buy, what to give, etc. Choices make a world of difference between success and failure, joy and sorrow, peace and chaos, life and death. Making correct choices leads you to a correct destination, whereas making wrong choices leads you to a wrong destination.
A wise man once said, “Wise people choose today what will make them happy tomorrow, but foolish people choose today only what will make them happy today.” In other words, wise people choose today what will make them happy even tomorrow, but foolish people don’t consider the future. They choose only what will make them happy today. Therefore, be futuristic in your choices. The choices you make either make you or break you. As for you, you will make the right choice that will make you!
Though God has predestined you for glory, your choice in life will determine whether you will arrive at that predestination or not. God has an equal destiny of shining for all His children. God’s Word says: For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son,… Moreover whom he did predestinate… (Romans 8:29-30).
It is our individual choices that distinguish one person from another. After creation, when God gave Adam a wife, and he turned around to blame God for the wife when he fell, every step man took from then was a product of his choice. Whatever you become in life is a product of your choice. Life is full of choices.
Let us see how the destiny of some people in the Bible was affected due to the choices they made.
Adam: The number one example is found in Genesis 3:6. We see how Eve made a choice to eat the fruit that God told them not to eat. God was watching in heaven, while Eve was picking the fruit. Why did He not just knock Eve on the head, and say, “No! You can’t eat it?” He didn’t do that, because man was created as a creature of choice. So, Eve disobeyed God and ate the fruit, giving room to the devil, and by so doing enslaved humanity.
You will observe that the choice Eve made did not only affect her, but affected generations after her. That is the same way the choices we make on a daily basis, do not only affect us, but our seed and seed’s seed.
Ruth : After Naomi’s husband and her two sons had died, Ruth had a choice to either go to Israel with Naomi or stay back in Moab where they were. The other woman, Orpah, chose to stay, but Ruth chose to follow Naomi. That choice brought her into the enviable lineage of Jesus Christ. Don’t make choices on impulse. If you do, you will end up regretting.
Have you made the choice to surrender your life to Christ? If your answer is “No”, use this opportunity today to make the right choice that will lead you to a right destination. This is done by confessing your sins and accepting Jesus as your Saviour and Lord. If you are ready for this new birth experience, please say this prayer:
Dear Lord, I come to You today. I am a sinner. Forgive me of my sins. Cleanse me with Your precious Blood. I accept You as my Lord and Savious. Now I know I am born again!
