REDEEMING YOUR TIME (1)
I bring you God’s Word today with great delight. It is my prayer that these words find great expression in your life in Jesus’ name. The Word of God strengthens, builds and comforts especially at this time where the world is facing trials and tribulations. The good news is, you will have every reason to thank God about this season, in Jesus name! The Bible strengthened this further in Romans 8:28, And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. Irrespective of what the world might be facing at this time, you should see and watch out for the good that comes with it. This is not the period to waste time but a period you have to utilise, maximise and make the whole season count.
It is important to know that as a Christian teenager, time is a vital factor that should not be underutilised, wasted or ignored but be acutely aware of the seasons and times to ensure you harness it efficiently. Your Christian journey and life should not be left to chance but have an accurate overview and be aware of the perilous times. However, wisdom is the principal tool for every teenager to redeem his/her time because the days are evil (Ephesians 5:16). If we are not careful, many seconds, minutes and hours will slip by unproductively. Wasted time is dangerous because it is irreversible; it cannot be ‘bought back’. The world may be looking at this present lockdown as a disadvantage, but you as a Christian teenager should have a positive approach to it.
REDEEMING YOUR TIME
As a Christian teenager, there many ways to redeem your time:
Time with God: Ellen G. white said, ‘All the riches of the world are not of sufficient value to redeem one perishing soul’. You may have been busy all your life by giving preference to your studies and adversely giving little or no time to appreciate the place of God in your life. You can have all the education in the world, go to the most expensive university in the world, and on the course to becoming successful in life; these are ideal visions you should have as a teenager but remember, it is only God that can guarantee your success. The Bible in Ecclesiastes 12:1 admonished that you should, Remember now thy Creator in the days of thy youth, while the evil days come not, nor the years draw nigh, when thou shalt say, I have no pleasure in them. Therefore, God has orchestrated this season for you, so find time to re-establish your relationship with God; ensure you build your prayer life, set out to read anointed books that can be of immense help to your spiritual growth, most especially develop day to day guidelines for fellowship and studying of the Word of God. The Bible says, Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works (Revelation 2:5a).
Time with Family and Friends: The sacredness of most families has been shattered because more preference has been given to work, business, and education in pursuit of ‘success’ at the expense of the family’s happiness. Most of you barely had time to spend with your parents because they have been busy with work, business and many other things. On the other hand, you may have been in boarding houses all your life from nursery to secondary school and you have not gotten the opportunity to relate with your family extensively. You can maximise this season to reunite with your family, find time to communicate, pray, plan and study as a family. This is an opportunity to strengthen family bonds and strengthen the paths that may have gone sour as a result of negligence, lack of care and support for each other as a family. As a teenager, you can be creative with this season, by initiating family games, drama, cooking competition, Bible study challenge, family praying and fasting etc. God can use you to reintroduce joy and happiness that may have declined in your family. Even with the help of internet you can connect with your extended families and friends, ensure you are keeping up with them and their welfare. More so, you can send words of encouragement, daily prayer modules and scriptures; this goes a long way to ensure stability in their lives at this time. Do not forget, this can be done through wisdom gotten from God in the place of prayer, so spend time to pray and God will grace you with ideas.
Time for Yourself: It is no longer news that many people have lost their sense of decency, and belonging because of the so much hustling and bustling to make ends meet. For about a month for those of us in Nigeria and over two months for other parts of the world, there has been lockdown. Many have survived this period and many are yet to survive. This is the period to re-evaluate your life and check how all your pursuits have benefitted you, your relations with God, your family and people. Fame doesn’t redeem you. It takes a long time to get there, and when you are finally there, you realise you still have authority figures telling you what to do.
Thomas ken said ‘Redeem thy misspent time that’s past, and live this day as if thy last’. Therefore, make a lasting memory of your time by redeeming it. You cannot redeem your time by human wisdom alone, you need the Holy Spirit to direct and guide you. However, the Holy Spirit cannot dwell inside of you when you have not accepted Jesus as your Lord and personal Saviour. If you have made this decision, you can say this prayer of faith:
Dear Lord Jesus Christ, I come to You today. I am a sinner. Forgive me my sins and cleanse me with Your Blood. I accept You as my Lord and Saviour. Make me a child of God today. Thank You for delivering me from sin, pride, arrogance and self-pity and all the lies of satan to serve the living God and thank You for accepting me into Your Kingdom, in Jesus name! Amen.
