This great month, we have been looking at the topic: Personal Development. I started by introducing you to what personal development is and how important it is for you, if you must remain relevant in life and in your chosen field. However, you must also understand that personal development is not just in academics or skills alone, but we basically, as humans, need to develop in three major areas. They are namely: spiritual, mental and physical.
Man is triune in nature. This means that you are basically a spirit, who lives in a body and possesses a mind. Therefore, if you must be fully developed, the three areas of your human nature must be developed along side. Personal development must affect your spirit, soul and body.
Every positive development begins from the spirit-man, because the spiritual controls the physical. Also, the spirit-man is the actual you. So, when you are spiritually robust, every aspect of your life conforms positively. The Bible says:
For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace (Romans 8:6).
The principal key to spiritual progress is a studious life. You must study the Word of God and other anointed materials to grow spiritually. Unfortunately, very few do this. That is why we have very many spiritually weak persons in the body of Christ today. In studying God’s Word, it is usually helpful to follow a consistent programme. It is written:
Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly diving the word of truth (2 Timothy 2:15).
Also, spiritual development entails that you constantly improve the quality of your prayer life (Ephesians 6:18), listen to spirit-building messages, read anointed books and be spiritually sensitive to the Holy Spirit. Remember, your spirit-man cannot be edified when you remain in carnality.
In order of importance, next to the spirit is the soul which is referred to as the mind. In other to make your life count and achieve greatness, there must be a constant refurbishing of the mind. The Bible says:
And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God (Romans 12:2).
You can refurbish your mind through educational, intellectual and motivational materials. Expand your knowledge on areas of interest to you and your field of studies. Someone rightly said that the world will stand still for those who know where they are going. One major way to prove that you know where you are going is in how much knowledge you have about your destination. So, go for knowledge!
Also, the company you keep determines the sharpness or bluntness of your mind. If your friends have no aspiration for growth and development, neither will you (Proverbs 27:17). Therefore, mind the company you keep.
This has to do with enlarging the resources God has blessed you with. For this to be a reality, you need to learn to be diligent (Proverbs 22:29), understand the covenant of prosperity (Genesis 8:22) and be patient. These three important keys help to expand you physically.
However, it is important to note that your physical development or the enlargement of your resources is largely dependent on how developed you are spiritually. To be spiritually developed begins with being born again.
To be born again entails that you confess Jesus as your Lord and personal Saviour, forsake your sins and follow every of His commands. Therefore, if you have not done that or may have withdrawn at some point, you need to say this prayer in faith:
Dear Lord Jesus, I come to You today. I believe You died and rose again for my sake. Forgive me of my sins, take over my life, make me Your child and let Your peace reign over my life. Thank you for saving me. Now I know I am born again!
Congratulations, you are now born again! I believe that you will begin to experience the reality of the price that Jesus paid for your sins at Calvary.
