PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT (1)
I welcome you to the second half of the year, I decree that the remaining months in the year will be packed with pleasant surprises for you and every blessing for the month will not elude you, in Jesus name! This month, I will be discussing a topic that every teenager needs for a better and brighter tomorrow; that is the subject of ‘Personal Development’. It will interest you to know that as teenagers, you are empowered today for your tomorrow; therefore, your preparations today as a teenager matter a lot to the future you hope to see and live in tomorrow. The Bible says in Jeremiah 29:11, For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future (NIV). Collin Powell said ‘None of us can change our yesterdays, but all of us can change our tomorrows’. You may not have achieved all that you planned since the year began but you have the power to determine the remaining half of the year and this begins with personal development.
As much as God has plans for you as a teenager, it is your responsibility to prepare yourself and walk with the conscious mindset that you are a child of destiny. Every successful person you see in the society today is a function of how well they prepared for the future in their teenage days. Whatever you see of our society (Nigeria) today is a function of how everybody before your time prepared for it.
Personal development is the process of causing a change that equips you for a better and impactful life. It includes activities that enhances your strength and help your weaknesses; thereby positioning you to take advantage of opportunities.
Personal development is a long-life continuous process which involves consistent upgrade of your life. It means conscious forward movement towards a more advanced and organised life. Development is not a point you arrive at, but a process that is progressive. That is why you must keep on consciously and consistently upgrading yourself. Apostle Paul said, And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God (Romans 12:2).
It is important to note that before anyone can develop themselves, there is first a need for ‘self-discovery’.
What Is Self-discovery?
Self-discovery is the process of being aware of one’s potentials skills, likes, dislikes, character, needs and motives. It is through the discovery of self that you can identify your purpose and actualise your potentials. On the other hand, failure to embark on a pilgrimage of self-discovery will not only cheat you of the opportunity to understand who you are and what you want out of life, it could also deny or delay your fulfilment in life.
Your potential is the seed of greatness that will eventually grow into a tree of values. Values are the motive behind any purposeful action. Values specify a relationship between a person and a goal. Values are also principles, standards of behaviour or one’s judgment of what is important in life.
Values are the set of attributes that you see as important. They are pillars on which your entire life will stand, they define your configuration and disposition to many aspects of life, and they determine how you will respond to the circumstances that come your way as you journey through life.
There is greatness in every child of God, it is now your responsibility as teenagers to develop yourself, skills and abilities for greatness. Therefore, start taking responsibility from today. We did our part and that can be seen in our society today. It is now left for you as leaders to develop yourself to build the future you desire. Acts 20:32 says, And now, brethren, I commend you to God, and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up, and to give you an inheritance among all them which are sanctified. God’s Word can mould you into what He wants you to be and give you everything you could possibly need to bring this to pass. However, dear friend, you need to know God and become His child so He can ‘engrace’ you for continuous development.
You become His Child by confessing your sins and accepting Jesus as your Lord and Saviour. If you have not asked Jesus to come into your life or maybe you have neglected your initial love for Him, then you should say this prayer in faith: Dear Lord Jesus, I come to You today. I believe You died and rose again for my sake. Forgive me of my sins, take over my life, make me Your child and let Your peace reign over my life. Thank You for saving me. Now I know I am born again!
Congratulations, you are now born again! I believe that you will begin to experience the reality of the price that Jesus paid for your sins at Calvary. All-round rest and peace are guaranteed you, in Jesus name! Call or write to share your testimonies with me through firstname.lastname@example.org, 07026385437 or 08141320204.
