One of my favorite quotes is by a gentleman named Matthew Henry. He said: “Peace is such a precious jewel that I would give anything for it, but truth”.
That statement speaks volumes to me and I agree with it so much. There is absolutely nothing like having peace. Whether it’s peace of mind, peace within, peace in the environment; PEACE just can’t be replaced with anything else. The definition of peace is freedom from disturbance; tranquility. Who doesn’t like that? I know I do. Now, let’s talk about it as far as our relationships and marriages go. I have learnt from some marriages that I have been privileged to observe, that there’s nothing worse than living with a quarrelsome or troublesome person. A definition of troublesome is causing difficulty or annoyance. In fact, I call them men and women of war.
That is they are never at peace when there is peace! They create something out of nothing in a negative sense; they find faults, they nit pick, they argue every chance they get. They are never satisfied unless there is a fight! It sounds funny, but may God deliver us from such people. Even if some things must be discussed, you don’t have to end up in a war zone. The Bible calls such people fools – those that just insist on arguing and fighting till the end. To have such a person as spouse is to never have peace of mind. Whether you are married or single, ask yourself, ‘am I such a person’? If you are, please make some changes. That’s not a good trait to have so don’t be proud of it. Don’t be proud of being a troublemaker! Don’t be proud of being a concern in your home. Ask God to help you accept that fault and make changes.
While reading through the book of Proverbs some time ago, I discovered that even the Bible feels bad for anyone married to a quarrelsome wife. So much so that it tells us it’s better to live on the corner of the rooftop and risk your life than live with a contentious wife (Proverbs 25:24). It also says it’s better to live far away in the desert than with a nagging wife. Imagine that!I believe it goes both ways because some men have such traits.
Whatever the case, please strive to be a man or woman of peace! And I mean genuine peace… The God kind of peace. In fact, peace is a proof that Jesus Christ is in your relationship or family because He is the Prince of peace. I’ll take it so far as to say that if you are a person of war, you are not spiritual at all, no matter how much you claim to be. To be spiritually minded is life and it is PEACE; to be carnally minded is death (Romans 8:6). Which one are you? It will show in your output. And remember the Bible says we should do our very best to be at peace with all men (Romans 12:18, Hebrews 12:14).
When I speak to single ladies and gentlemen, I love to stress the importance of peace. If you pray for anything in a spouse, please at the top of your list should be a man or woman of peace. Listen, no matter what you have, if you don’t have peace, you have nothing!
You must have Christ in your life to be able to enjoy peace. This simply means that you must be born again and you can only do so by having a personal relationship with Him. You can do this by confessing your sins and accepting Jesus as your Lord and Saviour. That way, you will be saved. If you are ready to be saved, please say this prayer: “Lord Jesus, I come to You today. I am a sinner. I can’t help myself. Forgive me of my sins. From today, I accept You as my Lord and Saviour. Thank You Jesus for saving me. Now, I know I am born again.”
