Dear Reader,
You are welcome to this new month! According to God’s agenda, every month is supposed to produce fruits beneficial to you (Revelations 22:2). So, this month, you must expect a new package that would change your story this year forever! I have discussed several interesting topics with you this year, and I believe that if you have truly being following the teaching series, you should be harvesting your testimonies at this time.
The topic this month a very important one, that most people are guilty of, but not aware of it. This is: Overcoming Addictions and Abuse. You may be wondering, why this topic, seeing that you are not into sniffing of cocaine, marijuana, nicotine, etc. However, must people abuse the normal drugs and some other substances unknowingly. Some other people are addicted to habits that are harmful to them presently or in the future, but don’t know how to get out of it.
Whatever your case or someone you know may be, you must understand that there is no form of addiction you cannot be free from, if you are willing and ready to be free from it.
Abuse means to treat someone or something badly or to misuse a thing. While addiction means attaching yourself to something to the extent of not being able to do without it. From these definitions, you can conclude that when a substance is used either constantly or not, outside its original contest or without a cause, it can be known as an abuse of it. Also, if you crave for a particular thing, even when there are other alternatives, then you might have formed an addiction to it.
Even though all things have been made for our enjoyment, it is clear that as Christians, we must not be excessive in our dealings with anything. The Bible says:
Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand (Philippians 4:5).
Some people abuse so many things ranging from drugs, beauty products, machines and equipments, etc. Some others are addicted to things that are not necessary to their existence. One thing about addiction is this: It comes like a force that you think you cannot withstand. Its cravings are so strong that you might always want to give in to it, or you would assume something worse will happen to you if you don’t. The good news is: You would be better off, without that which you think you are addicted to, The Bible says:
All things are lawful unto me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any (1 Corinthians 6:12).
Whatever you crave for might be lawful, but you must caution yourself not to be brought under the power of anything. Some excuses people give for their addictive nature are:
• It helps them overcome depression
• It fills in for loneliness
• It subsides anger, etc.
The truth is: It doesn’t! It might give you a kind of relief, but the real issue still remains. So, no matter what your excuse might be, it is not enough to subject yourself as slave to anything. It is written: Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness? (Romans 6:16)
You don’t have to be servant to any material or anyone. Your loyalty is only to God. When you are addicted to anything, it becomes a mini-god to you. However, the Bible says that you should have no other god besides the Living God. So, today, you are been called to check and release yourself from any substance or material thing that you might be holding on to. It might not look harmful at the instance, but in the long run, it might cost you more than you bargained for.
To be free from addiction and substance abuse therefore, you must be born again. The Holy Spirit helps you against every negative force, but He only comes upon believers. However, you can be born again by just saying this prayer in faith: Dear Lord Jesus, I come to You today. I believe You died and rose again for my sake. Forgive me of my sins, take over my life, make me Your child and let Your peace reign over my life. Thank you for saving me. Now I know I am born again!
Congratulations, you are now born again! I believe that you will begin to experience the reality of the price that Jesus paid for your sins at Calvary. All-round rest and peace are guaranteed you, in Jesus’ Name! Call or write, and share your testimonies with me through contact@faithoyedepo.org, OR call 07026385437 and 08141320204.
