The Family is very precious to the heart of God, because from the story of creation in the Bible, everything God created, He spoke into existence. However, when it came to the issue of marriage and family, He didn’t just speak it into being, He was practically involved in instituting it (Genesis 2:18-22). Making God the foundation of your family, therefore, is the first step to its success.
Today, via God’s Word, I will take a look at not just the youth, but the unmarried under the topic, ‘Maximising Your Single Years.’ As a single, life doesn’t have to be full of anxiety in expectation of the day when you will be married. No! In fact, God’s desire is that as His child, every additional day of your life should be exciting and full of purpose (Proverbs 4:18).
In Jeremiah 29:11, God says: For I know the plans I have for you says the Lord. They are plans for good and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope (Living Bible). God has a good plan for your days even as a single man or woman. As a single, understand that you did not make yourself. God is the One, Who packaged and sent you to the world. You are the creation of the most High God, not a non-entity or coincidence or even a mistake. A good understanding of this will help you to gain confidence in God. No matter your family background, you are still His creature of beauty and purpose (Psalms 139:14). It doesn’t matter if your father and mother said they gave birth to you by mistake, God’s Word makes it very clear that you were made by God for a purpose (Psalms 100:4). So, instead of filling your single days with anxiety, key into the will of God during this period.
Unfortunately, due to ignorance of God’s plan during their single days, most individuals do not make the best use of this period of their lives. They waste so much time worrying about when they will meet their future spouse.
As a single man or woman, the will of God for you is to be successful. This is clearly stated in Joshua 1:8: This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.
The will of God is for you to be above only, not beneath (Deuteronomy 28:13). Whether you are a working single or you are in school, no matter your circumstance, you can be successful. As a believer, God has equipped you with so much; He has invested a lot on your inside to enable you to make what you want out of life, not just in marriage, but in every aspect of life such as academics, career etc.
However, if you desire a good future, you have to work it out yourself and this requires discipline and hardwork (Philippians 2:12). Therefore, as a single, you can’t afford to be lazy. When you decide to be diligent in whatever you do, according to the Word of God, His grace is made available and it becomes easy for you to obey.
Your youth & single days is the best time to make a decision for Jesus Christ because you can enjoy a lifetime of sweet fellowship with Him. If you have not accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour of your life and you want to, please say this prayer with me: “Dear Lord Jesus Christ, I come to You today. I am a sinner. Forgive me of my sins and cleanse me with Your Blood. Deliver me from sin and satan to serve the living God. I accept You as my Lord and Saviour. Make me a child of God today. Thank You for accepting me into Your Kingdom.”
