In our last segment, we mentioned various ways in which our love for God shows.
“if you love God, you’ll love His word,
if you love God, you’ll love His house,
if you love God, you’ll serve Him,
and if you love God, you’ll love to give.”
We’ll take these individually and study them a bit more.
I pray that the greatest teacher of all, the Holy Ghost, goes ahead and causes this to positively change our outlook for Christ, in Jesus name.
First, “if you love God, you’ll love His word.”
“…and the Word was God.” John 1:1
This proves that God and His word are all in one and so if you say you love God, you also must love His word. They are the same person.
If you love God therefore, spending time DAILY in His word will not be an issue; rather, it’d be a thing of joy. Just as spending time with your loved one(s) is something you look forward to, spending time with God should be something you look forward to. It’s about building a relationship with God so that He speaks to you at all hours of the day and you can do the same. You never get tired of Him (or His words) when you have a heart and true love for Him.
Second, “if you love God, you’ll love His house.” Psalm 84:1-7
This is very important.
Remember when Jesus went into the temple in His days only for find people buying and selling? Remember His reaction to all of this?
Well, if you don’t, let’s take a look at it.
12 And Jesus went into the temple of God, and cast out all them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the moneychangers, and the seats of them that sold doves,
13 And said unto them, It is written, My house shall be called the house of prayer; but ye have made it a den of thieves.Matthew 21:12-13 (KJV)
Due to the love of Jesus for His father, He was outraged to find what the people had turned the temple into. This shows His love for the father.
You can be sure that many of those who might have told others that they were followers of Jesus were involved in the buying and selling; but not Jesus.
This is because when you truly love God, His house becomes your house and your love for Him translates into your love for His house.
My father tells a story about when the ministry just began and early service mornings, he’d go to the church to sweep and then head back home to get ready for the service. No one knew he was the one who swept the church until when his personal assistant once came to deliver a message to him and then saw what he was doing. He didn’t do it to be noticed, he did it to reverence his father.
The respect he had (and still has) for God translated in the respect shown to the house of the father.
I pray today that the spirit of love which passes all understanding be deposited in us afresh so that in all we do, our love for Christ shows. In Jesus mighty name!
Third, “if you love God, you’ll serve Him.”
24 Only fear the Lord, and serve him in truth with all your heart… I Samuel 12:24
But take diligent heed to do the commandment and the law, which Moses the servant of the Lord charged you, to love the Lord your God, and to walk in all his ways, and to keep his commandments, and to cleave unto him, and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul. Joshua 22:5
This shows that when you love God, you serve Him. They go hand in hand and cannot be separated. In your service to God, your love for Him shows.
In the same example cited above about my father consistently sweeping the church in anticipation of the arrival of the church members, his love for the house of God showed through his service. Love therefore is directly related to service.
We even see the Bible distinguish between the righteous and the wicked through service.
18. Then shall ye return, and discern between the righteous and the wicked, between him that serveth God and him that serveth him not. Malachi 3:18
Service is imperative in showing our love for God and it is not forced, it just comes from the heart. True love for God shows in service to Him (and His children).
This is explained in I John 4:20 which says, If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen?
Your love for God therefore must also show in your love for His creations; in your love for humanity.
My mother is an absolutely perfect example to cite here. Her love for others cannot be mistaken and I like to say, she is God’s perfect example to me about what loving others means.
From the “smaller” things like calling to check up on those going through tough times, to the “bigger” things like her foundation which has a strong focus on helping the sick, she shows what love truly is.
I remember for her birthday in 2011 or so, the only thing she wanted was for us to go out and help others. We went with vans and vans of food to villages to share the gospel and these foods; and also went to hospitals to do the same. It was an absolutely great experience and a great lesson.
I guess you can then see why I’m not into birthday gifts, presents, and all of that?
PS Just today, my mother was discussing an outreach for Faith Academy students from miles away and speaking with my sister, you could see how excited she was! She calls them her “special children” haha. She absolutely loves them. Now tell me, how won’t you adore such a woman?
But back to the point though, God knows how eternally grateful I am for my mother and I pray that beginning today, your very own love for God begins to bring forth fruits, especially in your service to Him and to all those around you in Jesus name.
The last proof of your love for God to be discussed alongside benefits will be discussed in part III and I pray it continues to touch your hearts in Jesus mighty name, amen.
JNW: Show love to those you’ve previously shown none to. Go to your mother or father or brother or sister who you’ve almost always shown hate to, and give them a hug. Tell them you love them. Begin showing love today.
