You are welcome to your regular column. Last time, we studied why we need cash and the implications of ingratitude in our quest for cash. Today, we shall be considering the second point which is Discontentment.
Discontentment is a cankerworm; it eats deep down into the victim’s mind and thoughts. It eventually leaves him/her with a choice to do anything possible to get what he/she wants. Most times, negative choices are made by its victim.
Life is in phases and men are in sizes; therefore, live your life per time. The Bible encourages that contentment is an asset, a great one for that matter. 1 Timothy 6:6-8 says: But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. And having food and raiment let us be therewith content.
Quite a number of youths today have found themselves in ugly situations that were unnecessary, if contentment was in place. When you want to have money more than required at your level per time, you mostly run into cash problems. Let your expenditure remain strictly within the confines of your income. Don’t go borrowing and begging to satisfy material needs, when you could have managed the money you have appropriately.
Give no room to anxiety for ‘bigger things.’ It is not wrong to aim higher in life. Only ensure that you never allow yourself to be ruled by such thoughts, knowing very well that your income is not sufficient to buy you such luxury at that point in time. 1 Timothy 6:9 says: But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition.
How, then, can I meet my cash needs?
What you want, most times, may not necessarily be what you need. So, define your basic requirements and set a scale of preference.
In your list, needs of higher priority should be handled; those of lesser priority can be treated subsequently. This will help you to overcome the pressure that comes with cash limitations.
Seed and harvest time:
Seed time and harvest time will not cease. If God has said so, then so shall it be! If you must enjoy financial fortune as a youth, you can’t afford to sit idle and fold your arms, hoping for some cash harvest. Ecclesiastes 11:6 says: In the morning sow thy seed, and in the evening withhold not thine hand: for thou knowest not whether shall prosper, either this or that, or whether they both shall be alike good. So, it implies that God expects you to be actively sowing.
Cash comes as harvest from work done. Job 7:2: As a servant earnestly desireth the shadow, and as an hireling looketh for the reward of his work. This implies that if you are not working as a youth, and all you do is eat the bread of idleness, then you should not expect the cash reward that comes from labour.
Jesus had to work being our example. John 9:4 says: I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work. From the above scripture, if Jesus worked, then you have no reason to remain idle.
Your youthful age is the best time to engage in productive labour, and save for your retirement days because of the enormous strength endowed on the youth. Lamentations 3:27 says: It is good for a man that he bear the yoke in his youth. Also Exodus 18:20 says: And thou shalt teach them, Ordinances and laws, and shalt shew them the way wherein they must walk, and the work that they must do. So, there is a work that you must do and do it now! It must be honourable and acceptable before God, and then He can find something in your hands to bless and multiply.
It is a fact that lack of employment has left so many graduates and youths frustrated. However, cheer up for God has not forgotten you. This is your day!
I pray that even today, you shall encounter favour and experience breakthrough as you go in search of gainful employment, in Jesus’ Name.
Even as a student, there are petty trades you can venture in, to raise some money for yourself. By so doing, you enhance your financial capacity and meet your cash needs. Keep sowing and I see God giving increase to your seeds in Jesus’ Mighty Name. Amen!
You need Jesus in your life; you must be born again to live that excellent kind of life. Seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and other things will be added unto you (Matthew 6:33). Say this prayer in faith with me as I lead you to Jesus. He loves you and wants you safe in His arms: Dear Lord Jesus, I come to You today. I believe You died and rose again for my sake. Forgive me of my sins, take over my life, make me Your child and let Your peace reign over my life. Thank you for saving me. Now I know I am born again.
Congratulations, you are now born again! I believe that you will begin to experience the reality of the price that Jesus paid for your sins at Calvary.
