You are welcome to the last teaching of this month. Last time, I spoke on looking inwards as an avenue for locating the reason for which you were created.
One of the crucial areas of life that requires serious attention, if you must live a unique and different life, and be relevant to your world, is your character. Today, as I round off this teaching, I will be speaking on The Character Factor, in becoming a creature of relevance.
Character can be simply defined as someone’s way of behaviour. It is the particular combination of qualities that makes someone a particular type of person. It is also a pattern of behaviour that shows moral strength, self-discipline and of course, dignity. Character is your lifestyle!
With every sense of responsibility, I can tell you that you cannot amount to much in life, without good character because it is the platform for sustainable exploits and a glorious future. It is a seed that guarantees good and enviable harvest in later years. Truly, good character is one way out of a life of crises.
God’s Word says: …And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch (Acts 11:26). The disciples’ character distinguished them among others. They lived, behaved and demonstrated the attributes of Christ in their day-to-day living, in actions, words and deeds.
Interestingly, character is not a gift! It can neither be waited for nor wished for; it has to be consciously cultivated. For everyone who aspires to live a life of relevance, it is important to consciously and deliberately cultivate godly character.
Beyond doubt, God has a great and colourful destiny for everyone who is His child, including you! However, it is one thing for God to have a plan for you, but it is an entirely different thing for you to walk in that plan. It is only with godly character that you can be a man and a woman of relevance.
Nothing empowers people like honesty. Why? This is because your actions have a way of affecting not just you, but other people around you. Apostle Paul speaking to the Corinthians said: Providing for honest things, not only in the sight of the Lord, but also in the sight of men (2 Corinthians 8:21). You cannot be a man of relevance, if your yea is not yea and your nay is not nay.
Discipline is another major attribute and component of character. If you must ascend your throne as a priest and king, you must be disciplined. You must learn to choose what is expedient above what is lawful, so that your life can be under control of God’s Word (1 Corinthians 6:12).
The place of a godly character cannot be overemphasized, if you want to live a life of relevance. To cultivate this godly character, you need to possess a heart for God (Colossians 3:16), which is the ultimate. For God’s Word to dwell richly in your heart, you must consciously put it there, by spending time in the study of His Word.
Be purpose driven! Purpose helps you to see beyond the present, to the future. Talking about Jesus, He endured the cross because He saw a crown awaiting Him (Hebrews 12:2). Likewise, there is no way you can cultivate a godly character, if you are not armed with the willingness to forgive (Matthew 6:12). Forgiveness may be tough, but it is not impossible. When you learn to forgive others, you reap the same.
Above all, get hooked to the Holy Spirit. Developing godly character is by the Holy Spirit, not by power or might (Zechariah 4:6). As you embrace a godly character and continually cultivate it in preparedness of becoming relevant to your world, your life shall be a beauty to behold in Jesus’ name.
A life of relevance begins by being born again. You get born again by confessing your sins and accepting Jesus as your Lord and personal Saviour. Are you born again? If you want to be born again, say this prayer with faith: “Dear Lord Jesus Christ, I come to You today. I am a sinner. Forgive me of my sins and cleanse me with Your Blood. Deliver me from sin and satan to serve the living God. I accept You as my Lord and Saviour. Make me a child of God today. Thank You for accepting me into Your Kingdom”.
If you prayed this simple prayer, you are now a child of God. He loves you and will never leave you. Read your Bible daily, obey God’s Word and seek Christian fellowship (John 14:21).
Congratulations! You are now born again! All-round rest and peace are guaranteed you, in Jesus’ Name. Call or write, and share your testimonies with me through firstname.lastname@example.org OR 07026385437 and 08141320204.
