I welcome you to another glorious month in the year of our Heaven on Earth. This month, by the enabling power of the Holy Spirit, I will be looking at: Home: A Peaceful Experience
The home is meant to be a peaceful place. The Word of God says: …My people will live in PEACEFUL dwelling places, in secure homes, and in undisturbed places of rest ( Isaiah 32:18 NIV). God’s desire is to see His people live in peace. Moreover, since He Has made the Lord Jesus Christ head over all things in heaven, on earth and beneath (Philippians 2:9-10), and the Author of peace, there is no way you can secure the peace of God for your home until you allow Christ to be the head and not just the silent listener to every conversation. Christ and His Word must be allowed to be the standard in your home and not just an inscription or painting.
Yet, a lot of families do not enjoy peace because someone or something, rather than Christ, is the standard in their homes. The presence of Christ in any home guarantees peace because He is the Prince of Peace (Isaiah 9:6). Wherever there is genuine peace you can be sure Christ is present.
In securing peace in your home:
Deal with worry & anxiety
These are thieves of peace and need to be dealt with before peace can settle properly in your home. Are you worrying and fussing about everything from: ‘children’s school fees,’ to ‘what you will eat,’ from ‘your husband’s eye on other women,’ to ‘your wife not submitting to your every command?’ Stop it! Allow yourself to enjoy God’s peace at home. The Scriptures says: Be careful for nothing; but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:6-7). Instead of being worried or anxious over your situation, take it to God in prayer and believe He will intervene.
From the above scripture, prayer is in three stages; make sure you take your request through the three stages of prayer, supplication (this is a deeper level of prayer; it is searching God’s Word (the Bible) concerning what you want Him to do for you and persistently pointing it out to Him in prayer) and also address any force causing your lack of peace to cease. Then, thank Him for the answer in faith, believing He will do what you ask (some people leave this part out but it is wrong to do so).
The Bible says that as you thank and trust Him, He sends His peace to you and the situation around you. When God’s peace enters into you and your life, it flows next to the situation at hand and you experience a great calm, just like a river after a heavy rain or storm. The Lord Jesus showed us this in the Bible when He entered into a ship one day and a heavy storm started; the water became boisterous, and the ship was sinking. Then Jesus stood up and said: …Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm (Mark 4:35-41). Through your prayers, you too can say “Peace, be still” to whatever is causing worry or troubling your life and home; as long as you are born again, and the Lord is your Father, He will ensure that an answer is established.
Seek direction (wisdom)
The Word of God says: …Wisdom is profitable to direct (Ecclesiastes 10:10). ‘Wisdom’ in this passage is the Word of God. My husband usually says, “There is no mountain (problem) anywhere. Every man’s mountain is his own ignorance.” There is always a solution to every problem for believers in the Kingdom of God. The Lord said: …will with the temptation also make a way to escape… (1 Corinthians 10:13).
There is no problem without solution from the Word of God. Also, there is no problem the Lord is not willing to solve if you will let Him solve it and obey His instructions. So, find out what God’s Word says about your particular situation, whether it is money that is lacking, misunderstanding with your spouse, or trouble with your in-laws. God’s Word has an answer. Believe God’s Word for His solution, then follow His instructions.
Don’t be lazy about searching the Bible. With the aid of a concordance and Christian literature that deals with the subject at hand, you can always locate an answer. To be lazy to do so is to accept that turbulent situation in your home, instead of securing God’s peace. You need to seek what makes for peace and pursue it (1 Peter 3:11). You will eventually be the one to enjoy this peace, not your family alone.
You may think “Is it possible to secure lasting peace in this house, and life in general?” My husband and I have been married for over three decades now and we are yet to have the first argument; rather, it has been only peace and excitement.
Yours too can be the same if you will believe what you’ve just read and apply them to your home.
The grace you need to enjoy lasting peace in your home is available with God when you surrender your life to Christ and be born again. If you want to give your life to Christ and be born again, please say this prayer: “Dear Lord Jesus, I come to You today as a sinner. Forgive me of my sins. I believe You died and rose on the third day for my sins. I accept You as my Lord and Saviour. Make me a child of God today. Thank You for accepting me into Your Kingdom.”
Congratulations, you are now born again! I believe that you will begin to experience the reality of the price that Jesus paid for your sins at Calvary. All-round rest and peace are guaranteed you in Jesus’ Name! Call or write, and share your testimonies with me through firstname.lastname@example.org; OR 07026385437 and 08141320204.
