You are welcome to a wonderful month, filled with laughter, joy and praise. To God alone be all the glory! From the beginning of this year, you would realize that God has awesome packages for us. However, for you to realize all that God has for you, you must align to His Word and will, concerning your life.
For you as a teenager, it has been realized that most times you might have the zeal and will to act right with God, but certain pressures and concerns may be contending with your desires to serve God. This mostly comes in form of pressures from peers, colleagues and other forces. That is why this month, we will be discussing on Handling Peer Pressures.
Your peers are those you call your friends, often of the same age group with you. A group of people you share ideas, you mingle with and are major influences to you. While to be pressured means to follow a force that influences you to do something, whether willingly or not.
Though your peer group can be of positive influence to you, but in most cases when you discuss peer pressure it is usually in the negative. You need to know how to deal with these negative effect your friendship or relationship can bring to you, so you don’t get entangled with what you would regret in the future.
I am sure you would have heard your teachers, parent, or senior colleagues make statements like: “He or she was a good person before they started mingling with this group.” You would have even seen people like that in your school, church or community that were of good behaviours and morals, but got corrupted by the influence of the choice of friends they made.
This is why it is usually advised for you to choose your friends wisely. Friendship is usually by choice and not by force. You cannot be pressured to be friends with someone; you either choose to or not to walk with someone. In as much as we ought to love everyone and be at peace with them, it is not everyone we should mingle with.
So many destinies have been corrupted because of the wrong choice of friends they made. Some great names have died so early because they chose to be counselled by the wrong set of people. I once knew a young, beautiful and talented girl who died at age 13 because she had an abortion. This act she learnt from the kind of friends she followed.
As a child of God, you are different. You must not act the way the world does. There must be something unique about you, in fact you should be the one to set the standard on how to behave and what should be the norm. People should look at you in your school and say, I want to be like that sister, brother, boy or girl. That means you are not to be cheaply influenced wrongly.
The way you can ensure that you are not wrongly influenced is that you must know God’s standard for you. You should be familiar with the Word and godly characters to emulate. This you do by spending time with God’s Word, reading Christian literature, attending fellowships and gospel seminar. You ought to also take a stand for God and vow not to be defiled with anything negative around you (Daniel 1:8).
When you do these, you can confidently walk out on everything and everyone that may want to corrupt your good conduct and Christian testimony. You are the light of the world, therefore, your light must shine forth and no one is allowed to make it go dim (Mathew 5:16).
To effectively be able to withstand world pressures and be a positive influence, you need to receive Jesus as your Lord and Saviour. That means you need to be born again. He will only empower His Children.
To accept Him right now, please say this prayer: Lord Jesus, I come to You today as a sinner. I cannot help myself. Forgive me of my sins and cleanse me with Your Blood. Deliver me from sin and satan to serve the living God. I believe You died for me and on the third day, You rose that I might be justified. I accept You as my Lord and Saviour. Make me a child of God today. Thank You for accepting me into Your Kingdom.
Congratulations! You are now born again and a child of God. All-round rest and peace are guaranteed you, in Jesus’ Name. Call or write, and share your testimonies with me through firstname.lastname@example.org, and email@example.com; OR 07026385437 and 08141320204.
