EMBRACING INTEGRITY! (1)
You are most welcome to another time in God’s presence. Each time the Word of God comes, it comes new to refresh and edify your spirit, soul and body. Integrity is gradually becoming a scarce attribute amongst teenagers today; however, it is pertinent to understand that your integrity determines how far you will go in life. One of the factors that determines how much your life will ever be impactful is integrity. Without any doubt, integrity is a must for anyone who desires to become a person of influence. Notably, a life without integrity will end in frustration.
Integrity can be described as the quality of being honest and having strong moral principles. It is a level of morality that you maintain, no matter what happens around you. It is a high standard of honesty, truthfulness, decency and honour that is never breached. The Bible describes a person of integrity as a man, in whose eyes a vile person is contemned; but he honoureth them that fear the Lord. He that sweareth to his own hurt, changeth not (Psalm 15:4). Therefore, as a Christian teenager for your life to count, you have to build a life of integrity.
TIPS TO BUILD INTEGRITY
To live a life of integrity, certain building blocks will be examined:
The level of corruption prevalent everywhere today requires anyone that will dare to be different, to first have a strong will to live against the prevailing corruption. Lack of integrity has become the order of the day in most places. So, you must be willing to maintain integrity because the will of man is powerful. Your will is responsible for the level of your integrity and it is the most powerful tool for building your integrity. Your willpower can help you get rid of negative thoughts which may be propelling you to do evil things which are detrimental to your integrity. However, if you aspire to live a life of integrity, you need to make a decision today to steer clear of anything that dents your image. Build your willpower to conquer every negative thoughts and emotions.
Think the Scriptures
When you think and meditate on Scriptures, you will see that how you live your life will be full of integrity. The Word of God will always chastise, humble and instruct you as a Christian teenager. How far you will go in life is determinant on your integrity. You have a glorious future and you need to guide it with all diligence ensuring you make the most of your God-given life. Get rid of negative thoughts; remember, your thoughts become your words, your words become your actions, and your actions become your character. Therefore, Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life. The Word of God checkmates your thoughts. When you fill your thoughts with the Word of God, you will not have space in your heart to deliberate on negative things. Your thoughts define your living, and your life is a product of your thoughts.
Speak Edifying Words
The Bible admonished in Proverbs 18:21, Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof. Your words can make or mar your integrity. Those who talk careless overtime has lost their integrity because people no longer trust them and value their presence. Their words are like arrows piercing into people’s heart, causing confusion, causing harm instead of comfort. Keep your words, and don’t make promises that you know you can’t keep. Stay clear form exaggerations to impress people. Mean what you say and say what you mean always, avoid white lies. They may seem harmless, but tiny lies are still lies. Always tell the truth and be concise in your speech.
Mind Your Association
The kind of association you keep determines your level of integrity. A popular saying has it that birds of same feathers flock together. However, your friends or the people you spend time with determines how people will view you and rate your integrity. Your friends can feed your mind with negative thoughts and bad words; they can also influence your perception about life and how you view things. They can talk you into seeing nothing wrong with doing what is bad. Therefore, if you want to build integrity and become a high flyer in future, you have to be selective of your friends.
For instance, Daniel in the Bible selected his friends, the three Hebrew boys; Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, and they stood firm against the order of the king to obey God (Daniel 3:16-28, 6). They became a national entity; kings began seeking for them because of their integrity.
Amnon had a friend named Jonadab, who convinced him to defile his half-sister, Tamar (2 Samuel 13), and this act costed him his life while his friend Jonadab went on free, even though he was the one who advised Amnon.
On other hand, Jesus’ disciple, Judas Iscariot also betrayed Him and sold Him for 30 pieces of silver (Matthew 26:15). I pray for you that the eyes of your understanding be opened to mind the association you keep, in Jesus name!
Awake to Righteousness
The Bible says in 1 Corinthians 15:34, Awake to righteousness, and sin not; for some have not the knowledge of God: I speak this to your shame. As a Christian, God has commanded righteousness, and you must pay attention to it, if your life must count. To be awake to righteousness is to be awake in the spirit, soul and body. This will also help you partake in other benefits of the Kingdom. If you don’t want your destiny to sink, you have to do away with every form of unrighteousness, separate yourself from lying, stealing, all kinds of strive, covetousness, fornication, backbiting and the likes; else, they will separate you from eternity. Make up your mind to be awake to righteousness and dead to sin, so that your integrity will not be dragged to the mire.
Consider the life of Samson, his destiny was ruined because of the sin of lust. He was drowned in lust and lost his glorious destiny in Christ (Judges 16). On the other hand, Esau lost his birthright because he lost his integrity, he valued food more than his birthright (Genesis 25:27-34). This will not be your portion, in Jesus name! But, you must be content with what you have, strive to live for God and the Holy Spirit will help you build that Christian life God has called you into.
Jesus is the only way to building a lasting integrity. He alone can help you overcome the integrity defiling temptations. If you have not accepted Him as your Lord and personal Saviour, now is the opportunity for you to do so. If you have made this decision, say this prayer of faith: Dear Lord Jesus Christ, I come to You today. I am a sinner. Forgive me my sins and cleanse me with Your Blood. I accept You as my Lord and Saviour. Make me a child of God today. Thank You for delivering me from sin, pride, arrogance and self-pity and all the lies of satan to serve the living God and thank You for accepting me into Your Kingdom, in Jesus name! Amen.
