Dear Reader,

As we proceed into this awesome year of breaking limitations, I am privileged by God to bring to you quite an interesting topic titled DEFEATING DISTRACTION, although I have already discussed the first part, but this time I want to share with you Why You Should Defeat Distraction and the Keys to Defeating Distraction. I know God will launch you into His purpose for your life this year as you read through this piece, in Jesus name!

Many have always made New Year resolutions, of what they need to do and how they need to do it; more so, a good number have also resolved to stop certain habits and characters that has not been of good benefit to them the previous year. However, some intend improving various aspect of their lives such as business, Bible study, evangelism, skill acquisition, getting an additional degree or certificate of specialty at one point or the other as the year proceeds, but I am shocked to tell you that only a very few will be able to stick to this plan before the year runs out.

I have done a research on the possible reasons why this kept reoccurring each year; I found out that during the course of the year, many were distracted and ventured into doing entirely different things from what they intended doing initially or what God has laid on their inside to do. Many awesome dreams and visions given by God has been traded for mundane things which have no value and advantage to you.

This is a sheer strategy of the devil to steal your dreams and visions away, just like I earlier mentioned in the first part of this teaching the example of David and Samson, these were men of valour but the devil distracted them. I pray for you, you will maintain focus this year, in Jesus name!

Hence, if you are part of these categories of persons, I have good news for you; you can start all over afresh on a fresh page and this time you will be more precise and efficient because I will be bringing you the mind of God, on how to handle and defeat distraction to make the most of your year a fulfilling one and I know the Holy Spirit will grant you understanding as you read on, in Jesus name!

Distraction can come in various ways and means; it does not come through a particular channel. As I earlier taught distractions can be visual, manual and cognitive, this implies that distractions comes from what we see, do and also what we think/imagine.  To be able to get rid of distraction, these keys will be most helpful:

  • Set and Define Your Goals

It is easier to stay focused on something when you bear them in mind, ask yourself questions like; why I am I doing this, of what benefit is it, how well can I do it? The Bible said in Habakkuk 2:2, And the lord answered me, and said, write the vision and make itplain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it. Any vision that is not clearly stated will be difficult to achieve. I admonish you to have a clear definition of your goals and set it in order of priorities and you will be amazed at how far you will achieve them.

  • Break Your Goals Down

One of the biggest reasons people get distracted is because there is no breakdown of goals to be achieved. However big goals that are not divided into smaller chunks of goals may seem so boring and cumbersome, but when it is broken down into smaller units it could be easier to be achieved with lesser stress and contempt. To some they will break down the goals and not attach timeline to it, at this time procrastination will eat deep into the concise time of accomplishment. However, to get rid of distraction, have a breakdown of what you wish to achieve for the year and attach a timeline to each of them; you will be shocked at how much progress you will make.

  • Create Good Network of Friends

The Bible states in Proverbs 27:17, Iron sharpenth iron…. Also, Ecclesiastics 4:9 says, Two is better than one; because they have a good reward for their labour. The secular world will say ‘two good heads are better than one’. Your association determines how far you go in life, insist on having goal oriented God fearing friends who will enable you achieve your goals for the year. Be sensitive to bad friends that will be a source of distraction to you this year.

  • Prioritise and Discipline Your Time

Plan your time, and give time to every activity. Ecclesiastics 3:1 clearly states, To every thing there is a season, and time to every purpose under the heaven. Don’t be left to chances and perceived luck, work out your time, by doing the right thing at the right time, be at the right place and at the right time. This is the sure way to success. Be disciplined to know things that does not worth your time, invest your time and don’t spend it. Invest it on your already set and defined goals which you have given a concise time to achieving them.

  • Be focused

Distraction fears focus. The opposite of distraction is focus, when you are focused you can never be distracted because, all your attention is fixed on your goal with the mandate that you will achieve it at all cost irrespective of what comes by. There is no one with a focused mind that can’t reach his/her target. Fill your thoughts, emotions, beliefs and sight with your goals, then you will realise that distraction has no root at all, the reason distraction creeps in is because there is no place given to focus, but I pray for you today that every form of distraction will be eliminated, in Jesus name through the power of focus.

  • Invite the God Factor

When God is at the centre of all you do, success is guaranteed. Proverbs 3:5-6 buttressed this fact, Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. Trust God to put you through any goal you wish to achieve this year, you can never get it wrong with God on your side. There is always wisdom in following the instructions laid down by God for you. Seek the face of God concerning all of your goals this year and see yourself becoming a high flyer, in Jesus name!

Remember you cannot approach someone whom you have no relationship with for help, it looks awkward. Also, you cannot ask your earthly father to help you when you distant yourself from him for a long time without acknowledging him as your father. Likewise with God, He cannot help you when you do not acknowledge Him as your Father, Lord and personal Saviour to help get through distractions and He is ever ready to help you. If you have made this decision, you say this simple prayer of faith:

Dear Lord Jesus Christ, I come to You today. I am a sinner. Forgive me my sins and cleanse me with Your Blood. I accept You as my Lord and Saviour. Make me a child of God today. Thank You for delivering me from sin, pride, arrogance and self-pity and all the lies of satan to serve the living God and thank You for accepting me into Your Kingdom, in Jesus name! Amen.

Congratulations! Now Jesus is your identity. The old you– full of pride and doubts, sins and stupidity – is dead and buried. The new you is alive in Jesus, when distractions come you have a choice to fight them with the truth in Jesus.
