The thoughts and the fear of failure or what’s next will be on one’s mind. However, see what the Bible says in Joshua 1:9, Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.

It can also be said to be strength in the face of pain or grief. Someone is said to be courageous when he/she faces life threatening issues with bravery and strength. So, in order to conquer life troubles and situations you have to be courageous.
HOW TO BUILD YOUR COURAGE
THROUGH THE WORD
The Bible says, For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart (Hebrews 4:12). Hearing the Word of God, believing the Word, assimilating the Word and meditating on the Word of God builds courage. What you constantly hear builds your beliefs, and your beliefs form your actions. When you constantly hear and read the Word of God, your courage grows. The Word of God is a courage booster and eliminates fears and its fellows. The Word of God injects the spirit of courage; so, you cannot speak the Word of God and at the same time speak fear. Do you want to build your courage? If yes, build your trust and believe in God.
- The Word of God Builds Faith
The Word of God builds faith and faith ignites courage. When you are too sure and convinced about what God has said concerning you even when everything around you suggests the negative, your courage is boosted by the Word and you can come face to face with challenging situations because you have more information that is enough to wage the war.
- The Word of God is a Spiritual Arsenal
Like a soldier going into battle with his arsenals, he is never anxious or fearful because he is fully equipped. The Word of God equips the believer to be courageous to conquer every life challenge or battle. When you are faced with unwanted situations it is not the time to cry, mourn or wail; it is the time to rise up with your spiritual arsenal which is the sword of God, declare it to the atmosphere in courage, and you will see how you will conquer the battles. No one wins the battles of life without courage. The faint in heart will always fall a prey to the enemy always.
- The Word of God Builds Confidence
One of the vital characteristics of a courageous person is his confidence. When you lack confidence, you cannot say you are courageous. Confidence builds courage. When you build your confidence through the Word of God, you will also experience building your courage to face the battle of life. However the Bible says, And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us (1 John 5:14). When you have this at the back of your mind as a believer you need not fear, because you have a guarantee in God’s Word.
THROUGH PRAYER AND FASTING
Examples of people in Scriptures that prayer and fasting helped to build their courage:
Jesus was a perfect example of how prayer and fasting can boost one’s courage. After He fasted forty days and nights, He gathered all the courage He needed to overcome the devil. The devil tempted Him and He was able to silence the devil (Matthew 4:1-11). Jesus needed the courage to face the death penalty meted on Him for our sins, He gave Himself to serious prayers that the sweat that came out of Him where like droplets of blood (Luke 22:44).
- Queen Esther
When it was difficult to meet with the king because of the Persian laws that restricted anyone from seeing the king, and the lives of all the Jews including herself were in danger, she called for fasting and prayer, and the situation that seemed impossible was reversed in her favour (Esther 4:16). Her courage came alive after the fasting and prayers to meet with the king against all odds and with the death penalty that was supposed to be meted on her.
Daniel a slave sold to Babylon, knew that a law was passed that no one should ever pray, he went into his closet and prayed, even when he knew that there is a death penalty to be meted on anyone who falters the law. Even when he was called to be thrown into the lion’s den he was never frightened; he was full of courage that God will deliver him, at the end he conquered and all the provinces in Babylon began to serve God because of Daniel (Daniel 6:10).
THROUGH PRACTICING RIGHTEOUSNESS
The Bible says, The wicked flee when no man pursueth: but the righteous are bold as a lion (Proverbs 28:1). To build your courage, you have to practice righteousness and seek to be in right standing with God. When you are practicing righteousness, you can boldly face life with courage. Sin causes guilt, fear, depression, worries and anxiety which are threats to courage. Sin is a reproach and causes disdain. However, to live a courageous life you have to practice, live and walk in righteousness. You have to give up on sneaky lifestyles that may dent your courage as a Christian. Have you lost your courage to sin? Seek to align with the Word of God, seek forgiveness and ask for the leading of the Holy Spirit to recover your courage.
The Bible says that, Jesus is the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the father except through Him (John 14:6). Jesus is ever available to redeem you, all you need to do is to accept Him as your Lord and personal Saviour, and you will have all your sins forgiven and a new you will emerge full of courage. If you have made this decision, you can say this prayer of faith: Dear Lord Jesus Christ, I come to You today. I am a sinner. Forgive me my sins and cleanse me with Your Blood. I accept You as my Lord and Saviour. Make me a child of God today. Thank You for delivering me from sin, pride, arrogance and self-pity and all the lies of satan to serve the living God and thank You for accepting me into Your Kingdom, in Jesus name! Amen.
