Hello Readers,

You are welcome once again to this glorious moment in the presence of the Most High God who deserves our praise. Last time, I shared with you on what emotions are, how they affect you and the benefits you gain from them. I said that emotions are not evil, God created you with them, and everything God created is beautiful. Many have derailed from God’s plan and purpose because of uncontrolled emotions, but you will fulfil destiny and make a mark, as you learn to bring your emotions under control in Jesus’ name!

Today, I will like us to explore: How We Can Put Our Emotions under Control.  As teenagers, there are a number of ways we can put our emotions under control in order to fulfil God’s plan and purpose on the earth.

  1. Fill Your Mind with the Word of God

The principal raw material for the renewal of the mind is the Word of God (Romans 12:2; Ephesians 5:26). Personally, you need to read, meditate and practise the Word every day, until your mind is saturated with it.

The truth is: if you feed your mind with junk, you will live a junk life. So, be careful what you load your mind with. You need to do away with all those old magazines and tapes that are not edifying, so your life can have a meaning!

  1. Beware Of Bitterness!

Unforgiveness usually results into bitterness. Maybe someone offended you; remember that you can’t undo that wrong. So, the wisest thing to do is to forgive the person and move on.

Don’t wait until the person comes to apologize to you; what if he/she never does that? Don’t allow your glorious destiny to be terminated by anybody (Hebrews 12:15).

Bitterness jeopardizes destinies; flee from it! Before anybody wrongs you, forgive the person. That is what my husband calls ‘advance forgiveness.’ Don’t let anybody break your heart; you don’t have a spare!

  1. Stop Comparing Yourself with Others

Avoid unfairly comparing yourself with others. In Galatians 6:4, the Bible gives good advice when it says:  But let every man prove his own work, and then shall he have rejoicing in himself alone, and not in another.

The Bible also says: godliness with contentment is great gain (1 Timothy 6:6). You don’t have any reason under heaven to compare yourself with anyone. My husband says, “Life is in phases and men are in sizes.” The phase you are in right now is good enough for you. Handle it well, and you will enjoy a better tomorrow.

Lack of contentment can mar your emotions and ultimately your future; beware of it!

  1. Learning to Control Your Thoughts

Negative thoughts can drain you of the energy you need to take actions (Proverbs 24:10). However, to think positively and put your emotions under control refuse to dwell on negative things that make you feel depressed or insecure. The Bible says:  …Whatsoever things are true, … honest, … just, … pure, … lovely, … are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things (Philippians 4:8). Doing this might be difficult, but with much effort and constant practice it can be done.

  1. Be Prayerful

I have discovered that praying in the Holy Spirit is the best way to bring your emotions under control. Praying in the Spirit builds you up, and it defuses every form of anxiety. Philippians 3:3 says: For we are the circumcision, which worship God in the spirit, and rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh.

Whenever you are challenged in life, remember that you have a great God with whom all things are possible. Also, remember that you have a great High Priest in the person of Jesus, who is touched with the feelings of your infirmities!

Ultimately, the best way to learn to control your emotions is to develop a close friendship with your Creator. He invites each of us to speak to Him in prayer, pour out our feelings and emotions (Philippians 4:6-7/13).  With God’s help, you too can learn to control your emotions. Let your confidence be in what He says, not on your feelings and emotions.

Whatever you might have lost in the past as a result of uncontrolled emotions, God will not only restore it to you, but according to Isaiah 61:7, He will give you double. This can only happen, as you put the things discussed here to work, making your life count positively!

However, putting the things discussed above to work can only be possible, if you are born again and accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and personal Saviour. Are you ready for this new birth experience? If you are, please say this prayer of faith with me: “Dear Lord Jesus Christ, I come to You today. I am a sinner. Forgive me my sins and cleanse me with Your Blood. Deliver me from sin and satan. I accept You as my Lord and Saviour. Make me a child of God today. Thank You for accepting me into Your Kingdom.”

Congratulations! If you prayed this simple prayer of faith with me, you are born again and you are now a child of God. He loves you and will never leave you. Read your Bible daily, obey God’s Word and seek Christian fellowship (John 14:21).
