Dear Reader,

Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the name of Jesus Christ! I feel so positive about your becoming a man or woman of great reference and influence. Be rest assured that as long as you keep following every teaching from God’s Word with all diligence, your rising is sure to come. Though you might not look like it now, but it is certain that your future is great.

However, everyone who intends to be great must possess also an excellent character. A good character is everything; it is worth far more than fame or wealth. A man’s character is the real foundation of all that he aspires to get and this is one of the crucial areas that require serious attention.

That is why this month, our topic is: Building the right Character. I must tell you, there is no better time to build a strong and godly character than during your youthful age. Many young people spend time running after other things, without getting the rudiments to sustain them. Character is one virtue that will sustain a man at every point of his life.

What is Character?

It is someone’s way of behaviour that shows moral strength, self-discipline, dignity. It is your life style. The truth is: you cannot amount to much in life without a good character. The Bible says: A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favour rather than silver and gold (Proverbs 22:1). This is because possessing other qualities may take you to the top, but character is what sustains you there.

Good character is the platform for sustainable exploits and a glorious future. So many promising and great destinies have crashed because of lack of character. This is why it is important to deliberately build your character.

Do you know that people are either well referenced, or lose highly placed positions because of their character? Character is like a seed, it must always produce after its kind. You cannot invest in your character and not reap a good harvest in the future.

For instance, Joseph found his way to the palace though he was in a foreign land because of his recommendable character. Daniel was also relevant during his life time because he had an excellent spirit which represents a distinguished character. Esther and Ruth’s character also gave them a reference place in destiny. You too can be the next, if you can take time to build a godly and reputable character.

Without doubt, God has a great and colourful future for His children. However, it is one thing for God to have a great plan for you and another for you to walk in it. It is with godly character that we lay a solid foundation for that colourful future God has in store for us.

There are things you should know about building a strong character:

  • Having a good character is a matter of the heart. The foundation of every good and profitable venture is in the heart. Maintaining a good character begins from a determined heart. The Bible says: For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he… (Proverbs 23:7)

Whatever character a man portrays is an outflow of what goes on within him. So, to develop a godly character requires you working on your inner man first and then it can produce the good fruits you desire (Matthew 23:26).

  • Character is your true beauty. While many people pay a lot more attention to their outward appearance, your true beauty comes from within, your character. To lack character is to be naked, ugly and stinking. All other beauty products may enhance you, but a good character is what keeps you in charge.
  • Character is not a gift. People are not gifted with good character; they take responsibility towards building it. So, don’t say “well I am behaving this way because I don’t have the gift of character.” Do all it takes to develop yourself towards being whom God want you to be.

Note: character cannot be hidden, no matter how hard you try. Also, you cannot be in-between characters; you either have a good or bad character. You cannot be separated from your character because it is like your skin. So, in all your gettings, you should include developing your character. This begins with having a steady foundation in Christ.

Accepting Jesus as Lord and Saviour of your life is one sure way to building every other aspect of your life including your character. For the Bible says:  But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord (2 Corinthians 3:18).

Therefore, if you have not confessed Jesus as Lord and Saviour of your life or may have backslide, you should say this prayer in faith:

Dear Lord Jesus, I come to You today. I believe You died and rose again for my sake. Forgive me of my sins, take over my life, make me Your child and let Your peace reign over my life. Thank you for saving me.  Now I know I am born again!

Congratulations, you are now born again! I believe that you will begin to experience the reality of the price that Jesus paid for your sins at Calvary.
