Building Blocks Of Life
Happy New Year! I am glad to let you know that there is so much good packaged for you this year that will positively affect all aspects of your life. I am confident that this year holds many blessings for you. You will surely experience New Dawn in all the areas you desire; but this will come when you consciously align yourself to this. God is too faithful to fail!
That is why this first month of the year, I will be teaching on: Building Blocks of Life. There are certain attributes you need to possess and areas you need to adjust to actualise what God has in store for you this year.
You are God’s building in the process of construction (1 Corinthians 3:9). But, a building is only as good as the quality of materials put into it; especially at the foundation level. That is why some buildings collapse, in spite of their beautiful architectural designs. God has beautifully designed you but you must lay up quality blocks to keep this building solid and lasting. This process of building begins with your heart. God is ready to lift you beyond your imagination this New Year but you must have a perfect heart with the right motives.
The state of your heart towards God and before man is so vital to life because you need the right heart to make the right mark. There was a king in the Bible who did every other thing well, but still did not reign effectively because his “heart was not perfect with the Lord.” (I Kings 11:4). The word “heart” in this case is not talking of the biological heart but “inner motives.”
You need a good heart to receive that which God has laid up for you. In the parable of the sower, Jesus talked about four different states of the heart of those who hear the Word of God. The wayside heart, the stony heart, the thorny heart and the good heart. Let us examine what He said about the good heart. The Bible says: A sower went out to sow his seed: …And other fell on good ground, and sprang up, and bare fruit … that on the good ground are they, which in an honest and GOOD HEART, having heard the word, keep it, and bring forth fruit with patience(Luke 8:5/ 8/15 emphasis mine).
The good ground that received the seed and produced fruits is synonymous with an honest heart. The seed in this parable is “the Word of God” (Luke 8:11).
But, What Does It Take To Have A Good Heart?
From the scripture above, there are four ways by which you can possess a good heart, namely:
Be Honest: It is very vital if you must maintain a good heart towards God and man. Too many people live in self-deceit. If God’s Word says you are wrong about something, don’t refuse correction; rather, admit it. Being truthful releases you from unnecessary fear, stress and guilt. John 8:32 says the truth sets free but lies only compound issues. Always be willing to sincerely tell the truth at any given time and in any situation you find yourself.
Hear God’s Word: Many don’t make it a point of duty to hear God’s Word on a constant basis. It is only those who hear the Word of God that have a chance for a change (2 Corinthians 3:18). The truth is: The more you listen to God’s Word, the more results you get in life (Mark 4: 24). As you keep hearing God’s Word, your faith keeps increasing (Romans 10: 17). To keep hearing God’s Word, you must locate a place where the full gospel of Christ is preached and settle down there. Let God’s Word guide your heart in all sincerity and you are on your journey to greatness.
Hold Fast to the Word: It is not enough to hear the Word because the wayside, stony and thorny hearted also heard God’s Word but didn’t keep it. You need to hold fast to the Word. This means to ‘guard,’ and “protect” it in your heart. In other words, don’t forget it, remember the Word always. Christians must prepare their hearts to abide by the Word and not play religion. Holding fast to the Word is what generates fruits and the more of the Word in you, the greater your returns.
Mix the Word with Faith: It is only the Word that is mixed with faith in the heart that produces results. Unbelief destroys the ability of the seed of God’s Word to produce fruit. Faith in God’s Word produces patience in you and that is what enables you to obtain the promises of God (Hebrews 6:12). There is nothing that corrupts your faith as fast as impatience. Learn to embrace the virtue of patience for it pays.
However, you must understand that, God’s Word is the final solution and the only technique for meeting all your needs. So, guard the Word in your heart, so the devil doesn’t steal it.
How Does The Devil Steal The Word?
Wrong thoughts: The devil can steal the Word through suggestive thoughts of the heart. This can come through negative and double minded thoughts. You know that a double minded person cannot receive anything good from God (James 1:22).
Wrong Company: There are instances when after a Church service, some believers return to mix with the wrong company and engage in wrong discussions. Such discussions erode the values and importance of God’s Word in their lives and they begin to behave as if the Word of God was never preached to them.
For instance, many have heard God’s Word on peace – so the seed of peace has already been sown in their hearts. This peace is meant to affect every area of life – home, children, spouse, job etc. So, if peace is missing in any area of your life, it means the birds of the air have eaten up that seed of peace. Therefore, you must guard against every negative thing that eats up the good seeds planted in you.
You’ve been hearing God’s Word concerning your glorious future. Perhaps you have made decisions to change or even actually changed but find yourself returning always to your old ways. It means something is wrong somewhere, because the moment you hear God’s Word, it is sown in your heart and it is indestructible. Why it is not producing results, should be a concern. It could be that there are “birds of the air” (Matthew 13:4) eating it up from your heart. Determine to give them no room in your life again. The Bible says: Neither give place to the devil (Ephesians 4:27). The Word of God is firm concerning the subject of not giving room to the devil or his acts. We are also told to …Resist the devil, and he will flee from you (James 4:7).
However, you need authority over the devil before you can resist him. If you are not a bonafide child of God, you have no authority to resist the devil. Once you become a child of God, the Bible says you become far above the devil, principalities, etc. (Ephesians1:20-22; 2:4-6). Satan is under your feet in rank so you have what it takes to resist him. If you want to become a child of God, say this prayer: Dear Lord Jesus Christ, I come to You today. I am a sinner. Forgive me my sins and cleanse me with Your Blood. I accept You as my Lord and Saviour. Make me a child of God today. Thank You for delivering me from sin and satan to serve the living God and thank You for accepting me into Your Kingdom.
Congratulations! If you prayed this simple prayer of faith with me, you are now born again and a child of God. He loves you and will never leave you. Read your Bible daily, obey God’s Word and seek Christian fellowship (John 14:21).
