To start with, I like to ask: Does God occupy the first place in your life? I asked because many are willing to serve God as long as it doesn't cost them too much of their time or effort. As far as they are concerned, God must be satisfied with the crumbs of their lives that they are willing to offer.
The truth is: God never asks for more than you can give. But, of course, He does ask for the best you can proffer. God’s Word says: But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you(Matthew 6:33).
Friend, at this stage in your lifetime, you need to order your priorities right. You need to love God first! Without Him, it is evident that you will be running in the vanity of your mind and all that you do will be in vain.
Though ambition and anxiety may get you carried away, the workload in your office or business may be overwhelming at times, but you must always remember that all these happen because you have breath in your nostrils.
For God to have the first place in your life, it must begin by putting Him first in your heart! God’s Word says: 'You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.' This is the first and greatest commandment (Matthew 22:37-38). Offer God the very best you have, and you will in turn find joy in serving Him.
Your love for God must be greater than your love for relatives, friends even yourself and your own enjoyment (Matthew 10:37). Your reaction when relatives or friends stop over just when you are on your way to fellowshipping with the saints of God is a proof of who occupies the first place in your hearts.
Is your leisure so filled with activity that you have no time for the Lord? By so doing, you are giving God the crumbs of your life, which is unacceptable to Him. It proofs that you love yourself more than the One who gave you that life.
Taking a cue from Jesus, He had intended to have some time alone with His disciples for rest but was moved with compassion because He loved His fellow men. Thus, He put their welfare above His own comfort (Mark 6:31-34). This is, of course, the perfect example of how you ought to put God first in your life.
For some, money takes precedence in their lives. They must earn a living they presume, but one that would keep them so busy that they would have no time to serve the Lord! Note that how you handle such decisions confirm what is of utmost importance in your heart.
This doesn’t mean you should be fanatical (Ecclesiastes 7:16-18). No! Dedication is the word. Being dedicated in this context means that you stand 100% behind God, and that you give yourself completely to His cause.
There is a fresh grace released for those born again in giving themselves completely to God’s cause with respect to giving Him the first place in their lives. Being born again entails confessing your sins and accepting Jesus into your life as your Lord and personal Saviour.
If you are set for this new birth experience, please say this prayer of faith from your heart loud and clear: Dear Lord, I come to You today. I am a sinner. Forgive me of my sins. Cleanse me with Your precious Blood. I accept You as my Lord and Saviour. Now I know I am born again!
