BECOMING A SUITABLE GODLY HELPMEET (1)
Peace and blessings to you, in Jesus name! The Word of the Lord comes each time to instruct and direct our paths, God has always sent His Word to ease every discomfort of life. Today, He has brought this lesson titled ‘Becoming a Suitable Godly Helpmeet’ to enable you strike a balance in motherhood and career. I am sure this will benefit you a great deal, in Jesus name!
We understand from scriptures that God has created a woman as a help meet for a man. Genesis 2:18 states, … It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him. She assumed this title primarily as a support, co-builder, and home-maker for her family. On this note, the existence of a woman on earth has been of an immense benefit for humanity; a woman has double honour, as a mother and a wife, she plays these roles simultaneously. However, it is not the will of God that any should suffer pain and discomfort, He has always made all things beautiful; motherhood/wife-hood is not an exception either. Research has shown that it is becoming a challenge for women to strike a balance between their career and family life. However, this shows that many has given so much to career advancement at the expense of their family relationship; on the other hand, some come up with excuses that motherhood has denied them the opportunity to have a career or notable vocations. Nevertheless, I debunk those statements, it is possible for a career woman to make a good home and a stay-at-home mum to build a career.
Nevertheless, this lesson is dedicated to encourage women to devote a reasonable part of their time to ensure they invest in their family (Husband, children both biological and spiritual). A helpmeet is not far-fetched, she exhibits certain characteristics that makes her unique and distinct.
CHARACTERISTICS OF A SUITABLE GODLY HELPMEET
A suitable godly helpmeet is characterised by the following:
- She Is Respectful
A suitable helpmeet is known to be peaceful and gives honour to her husband and everyone that comes across her, she is an epitome of humility and temperance. Grace is poured on her to dutifully carry out her responsibilities with respect and dignity. Proverbs 31:25 buttressed this fact about a suitable Help-meet, Strength and honour are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come. A suitable helpmeet understands that her husband’s need is to be honoured and not based on his performance but on his position. She learns quickly to defer with enthusiasm to his ideas or plans. She looks for ways to reverence him because she knows this is God’s will for her life. A suitable helpmeet is always learning, she is open to change, ready to hear and also wants to know.
- She Is Supportive
A suitable helpmeet is supportive of her husband and the family in any little way she can. For instance, when I newly got married and had our first son I was working; at the end of the month, I would give my husband my salary, although it is the sole responsibility of my husband to take care of us, which he did; however, as a helpmeet I saw the need to add some spice to the dish to make it sweeter. Proverbs 31:13 states, She seeketh wool, and flax, and worketh willingly with her hands. It is the responsibility of the man to provide for the family but it is better if the wife is supportive; not just financially, a woman can be supportive emotionally. More so, she can support physically, in career, education, business, and vocation; in fact she is supposed to be actively involved to foresee that every vision or goals of the husband or the family is maximally actualised.
- She Is A Builder
Proverbs 31:14 says, She is like the merchants’ ships; she bringeth her food from afar. Building a sustainable income for a growing family can be challenging most especially when the couple is yet to be financially stable, but a suitable helpmeet helps the husband build a sustainable happy family through hard work, encouragement, and godly counsels. The Bible states in Proverbs 14:1 about a suitable helpmeet thus, Every wise woman (suitable helpmeet) buildeth her house… (Paraphrased). A suitable helpmeet builds her home with an attitude of love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. God has placed in the heart of every suitable helpmeet to nest and deeply desire a home filled with all good things and lovely memories. This depicts the saying that ‘a woman multiplies everything given to her’.
- She Is A Home Maker
A suitable godly helpmeet makes her home conducive where her husband longs to return after a hard day’s work. The home is always inviting, loving, warm, free of tension and grief. A suitable godly helpmeet is eager to care for her family irrespective of how demanding the nature of her job is, she is known to sacrifice her time and resources for the welfare of her family.
As a mother, I devoted time to raise my children by watching them closely and ensuring that there were no lapses while they grew, and I also cared for my husband at the same time I am a pastor’s wife. In fact, I got married to my husband when this ministry was at her infant stage, I worked hand in hand with him by the grace of God to grow the ministry God has given to us to oversee, and I didn’t slack for a second. Truthfully, being a mother can be extremely rewarding in many ways, I cannot trade this experience for another.
Nevertheless, if you desire to be a suitable godly helpmeet, then you need godly character and moral strength. However, this can only come from your personal relationship with the Lord by accepting Jesus as your Lord and personal Saviour. It is pertinent to accept Jesus today to contact this grace, if you have made this decision you can say this prayer of faith: Father, I realise that I have been a sinner. Today I believe You died and rose on the third day redeeming me from all my sins. Now I accept You as my personal Lord and Saviour, save me and accept me as Your child, write my name in the book of life. Thank You Father for saving me, in Jesus name!
