I am so grateful to God that you made it to the last month of this year! I am indeed very thankful because it’s been an eventful year, filled with great blessings, multiplications and unending wonders. Truly, God is faithful to His Word and to Him alone be all the praise forever! The Bible says:
It is a good thing to give thanks unto the Lord, and to sing praises unto thy name, O most High:
To shew forth thy lovingkindness in the morning, and thy faithfulness every night, (Psalms 92:1-2)
However, I would like to ask you, “What are you thankful for?” have you stopped to appreciate God for His unending faithfulness towards you? Do you recount your experiences all through this year and how God came through for you at the verge of that turbulent situation? If you have not given Him thanks, you must do that today. The Bible says:
O give thanks unto the Lord; for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever (Psalms 136:1).
When you stop to think of all the experiences and events of your life, you would understand that there is always a need to be thankful to God at all times. Like my husband, Dr. David Oyedepo usually says, “If you have lost anything in the past, God is the reason why you have not lost everything.” So, you must be thankful! Contrary to what people think, thanksgiving should be the believer’s lifestyle. No matter what you may be going through or what had happened in the course of the year, you owe God thanks.
The story of the leper who returned to give God praise still holds relevance today because of his grateful heart. There were 10 of them who got healed, but gratitude brought wholeness to just one of them. As at the time Jesus asked them to go show themselves to the priest, the signs that they had leprosy might have still been there, even though they were healed. However, his thanksgiving brought a total restoration to him.
Similarly, there might still be some perfection you believe God for. There might be unmet expectations for the year that seems like they won’t be fulfilled, you might still be expecting that job, admission, promotion or scholarship, but that is a very good reason to give God thanks.
Most people feel, we ought to give thanks for only things received, but you should give thanks even when your blessings are in the waiting. It is written:
If ye will not hear, and if ye will not lay it to heart, to give glory unto my name, saith the Lord of hosts, I will even send a curse upon you, and I will curse your blessings… (Malachi 2:2)
A lady gave this testimony in Church some time ago. According to her, she had believed God for marital breakthrough and she was already 45 years at that time. When she got an understanding of the miracle in thanksgiving, she began to give God thanks for her situation. According to her, on a particular day, she gave God thanks 7000 times and miraculously her husband showed up.
She had lost all hopes, but thanksgiving brought her miracle. Peradventure you are like her, it seems the season for that breakthrough have been long overdue, it’s time to try thanksgiving. You might even be saying, “but there is no motivation to give God thanks.” Understand that where you are right now is someone’s prayer point. So, you are most privileged to be in that position. More so, it is written:
It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not.
They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness (Lamentations 3:22-23).
So, if not for the Lord’s mercies, you would have been consumed. Therefore, you must thank God for His preservation, sustenance, provisions, faithfulness and help to you. Fill your heart and mouth with praise. Dance, sing, rejoice and make the devil mad with you thanksgiving unto God.
Thanksgiving should not only be done when you are in Church, it carries much more value when you do it in your closet, in and out of season. Never point an accusing finger at God, because if you think deeply at the events of your life, you will acknowledge that He has done you well. However, thanksgiving don’t just come ordinary, it should be done with all gratitude and praise to God and your gratitude will only make a meaning if you are born again.
To be born again means to accept Jesus as Lord and Saviour over your life, by confessing and forsaking your sins. Therefore, if you have not done that or you probably have walked away from the vow you made to Him in the past. You should say this prayer in faith right away:
Dear Lord Jesus, I come to You today. I believe You died and rose again for my sake. Forgive me of my sins, take over my life, make me Your child and let Your peace reign over my life. Thank you for saving me. Now I know I am born again!
Congratulations, you are now born again! I believe that you will begin to experience the reality of the price that Jesus paid for your sins at Calvary.
