Compliments of the season to you in Jesus’ name. I feel delighted to welcome you to this wonderful time in God’s presence. This month shall deliver to you the balance of your testimonies in Jesus’ name. I shall be teaching on what I captioned: Be Hospitable!
Hospitality must be the rule of the game in your family. Always be ready to be a blessing to others, extend your hand to the needy, have an open heart and warm welcome to friends, relatives and even strangers. Especially in this festive season, make somebody happy. Who knows you may be entertaining angels unaware. The Bible says: Be not forgetful to entertain stranger: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares (Hebrews 13:2).
Ladies, mothers and women should take note of this. If you are irritable, untouchable, not accommodating, or be a blessing to others in your home, you are not being hospitable. It can be seen in your actions, attitude, the way you address people. By looking at a visitor with a bad look can tell them if they are welcome or not. No matter how hospitable a man may be, if his wife is not hospitable, it will affect him negatively, because the woman will always be the one people will always meet at home.
Abraham’s’ family is a very good example of a home of hospitality (Genesis 18:1-10). Hospitality terminated 25 years of barrenness in the life of Abraham and Sarah.
Remember, also the Shunamite woman, hospitality terminated her barrenness and gave her a child of her own. And she said unto her husband, behold now, I perceive that this is an holy man of God, which passeth by us continually. Let us make a little chamber, I pray thee, on the wall, and let us set for him there a bed and a table, and a stool, and a candlestick: and it shall be, when he cometh to us, that he shall turn in thither. And he said, what then is to be done for her? And Gehazi answered, verily she hath no child, and her husband is old. And he said, about this season, according to the time of life, thou shalt embrace a son. And she said, nay, my lord, thou man of God, do not lie unto thine handmaid (2 Kings 4:9-10,14,16).
As a Christian, you must be given to hospitality (Romans 12:13). Please note, you don’t just pick anybody by the roadside and bring to your house, allow God’s wisdom in you to guide you on who to show hospitality, because there are wicked people who would like to take advantage of this. Nevertheless, a counterfeit is always an evidence that there is an original. The fact that there are wicked people around does not mean you should be generally unaccommodating. It only means that you should be watchful and trust God’s guidance. Your home, too, can receive divine visitation and blessings from God, by showing hospitality, just like Abraham’s home and the Shunamite woman.
David Livingstone the great African missionary said, “The word ‘sacrifice’ is not in my dictionary.” Why? It is because all he had was given to him by God. It was not his own, therefore, but God’s own. He could not claim ownership and therefore, found it easy and not sacrifice, to release it back to God. How do you view the children God has given you? If Christ is the head of your home, the children are therefore, not yours; they are God’s property.
Many years ago, when I was a child, my earthly father when talking about us his children would say, “The gift that God has given unto us.” He would even say so when praying to God. I did not understand then, as a child but later when I got born-again, I understood that children are the gift of God not the property of the parents. So, they should be treated as God’s gift. When Jesus was born, He was taken to the temple and dedicated unto God (Luke 2:21-24).
Also, after Samuel was born, his parents dedicated him back to God, because it was God who gave them the child in the first place. The parents of Samuel recognized that the child was a gift from God to them.
For this child I prayed, and the Lord hath given me my petition which I asked of Him. Therefore, also I have lent him to the Lord; as long as he liveth, he shall be lent to the Lord. And he worshiped the Lord there (I Samuel 1:27-28).
See your children as a gift, so that you can bring them up in the fear and nurture of God. When you dedicate them, whole- heartedly and allow Christ to be Lord over them, it becomes easy for Him to become their Saviour. See yourself as a care taker.
There is nothing you should not be able to easily release to God, if He asks for it. Don’t be property conscious! If the Lord Jesus can trust you with things and knows you will not worship them instead of Him, He will bless you with so much that you will have more than enough to use and to give, to the expansion of His Kingdom on earth. Refuse to worship money or possessions because money is a god (mammon). No man can serve two master: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon (Matthew 6:24).
Don’t let money take the place of God in your home. Men, let your wives know how much you are earning, so they don’t over- spend. Wives, let your husbands know how you spend money so they can trust you with more money. Don’t allow money to divide your home or cause friction in the family. Any spirit of mammon or covetousness that is giving you unrest in your home, I curse and uproot now in the name of Jesus.
If you are not born-again, the power to be a blessing to others can only be given to you. You need to repent and appropriate the sacrifice Christ made for your sins or you will face the consequences of sin. To be born-again, please pray this prayer out loud: Dear Lord Jesus Christ, I come to You today as a sinner. I believe You died and rose on the third day for my sins. I accept You as my Lord and Saviour. Make me a child of God today. Thank You for accepting me into Your kingdom.
