A VIRTUOUS WOMAN (1)
Dear Reader,
Happy New Year! We give God praise for the past year; this New Year shall be filled with testimonies for you in Jesus’ name! Today, I shall be sharing with you on the subject: A Virtuous Woman.
Who is a Virtuous Woman?
According to the dictionary, to be virtuous means to be morally excellent and righteous. Therefore, a virtuous woman is one who is kind, decent, righteous, with high moral standards and pure in heart. She conforms to standards of what is right and adjust to approve codes of behaviour. The virtuous woman is a woman of strength; she is made strong by wisdom, grace and fear of God. Perhaps one reason for the rarity of a virtuous woman is that she is seldom sought. The Word of God says: Who can find a virtuous woman? For her price is far above rubies (Proverbs 31:10). A woman who loves God in a righteous way expressing warmth and true affection is a desirable wife. She will develop these characteristics as found in Galatians 5:22-23 which says: But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.
Qualities of a Virtuous Woman
There are certain qualities a virtuous woman exhibits and we shall be looking at some of them in our teaching series for this month.
- She fears the Lord
What makes the virtuous woman complete? Her crown is that she “fears the Lord”. The Word of God says: The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction (Proverbs 1:7; see also Proverbs 10:27, 31:30-31; Psalm 19:9). In order to study a woman that feareth the Lord, we must first understand what it means to fear God. What is the fear of God? Charles Bridges gives us this definition: “It is that affectionate reverence by which the child of God bends himself humbly and carefully to his Father’s law. His wrath is so bitter, and His love so sweet, that hence springs an earnest desire to please Him.” Webster’s dictionary defines fear as: An holy awe or reverence of God and His laws, which springs from a just view and real love of the divine character, leading the subjects of it to hate and shun everything that can offend such a holy being, and inclining them to aim at perfect obedience. I want to ask you this question: As a woman, do you really fear the Lord? If you fear the Lord, it will show in your action, words and deeds. It will show in the way you worship God, the way you relate with your husband, children and every member of your family. Can your husband or children really say, “Oh! my wife/mother, really fears God”. If you are a woman that fears the Lord it will reflect in the way you bring up your children. One of the qualities of a virtuous woman described in Proverbs 31 is the ability to train her children aright. God expects that every remembrance of you by your children should be for good. They should someday rise up, and without being compelled to, call you blessed. The Word of God says: Her children arise up and call her blessed: her husband also, and he praiseth her (Proverbs 31:28). A virtuous woman will always know that her children have been given to her as a gift from God (Psalm 127:3). God has entrusted the lives of the children into your hand, giving you the privilege to steer them towards their destinies in life. In essence, you have the privilege to be a caretaker to your children. The Word of God says: Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it (Proverbs 22:6). From the above scripture, it is observed that every child has the way he should go, and it is the responsibility of the parents to put him on the right track. As a woman, you are closer to your children than anyone else. It is, therefore, necessary for you as a woman to observe your children to know what they do best, where their strengths lie and what their weaknesses are and help them discover the right vocation to pursue.
- She is prayerful
A virtuous woman is a woman of prayer. There are many wonderful benefits of prayer which will culminate in that glorious family that you desire. A virtuous woman understands that one major contribution to her spouse and family is her prayer for them. My husband will usually say that prayer not only changes things; prayer changes people. She understands that there are situations she may not be able to change or certain changes she cannot effect on her husband or children, but that nothing is impossible with God. Among the wonderful returns of prayer is that it draws you closer to your Creator and that will help your understanding of His nature as well as His capabilities. Prayers will provide answers to issues confronting your family and give you direction on the best way to approach any situation. Therefore, invest in your prayer life!
For you to be a virtuous woman, you need the grace of God upon your life. I see God giving you that grace today in Jesus’ name! In case you are reading this article and you are not born again, there is need for you to do that. This is done by confessing your sins and accepting Jesus as your Lord and personal Saviour. If you are already born again, rejoice because your case is settled. If you are not and you desire to do so right now, please pray this prayer with faith in your heart: Dear Lord Jesus Christ, I come to You today. I am a sinner. Forgive me my sins and cleanse me with Your Blood. I accept You as my Lord and personal Saviour. Make me a child of God today. Thank You for delivering me from sin and satan to serve the living God and thank You for accepting me into Your Kingdom.
Congratulations! If you prayed this simple prayer of faith with me, you are born again and now a child of God. He loves you and will never leave you.
