SCRIPTURAL GUIDE FOR PARENTING

A Notable Influence

“Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.”

-Proverbs 22:6-

Examples are the pathways of life. Most successful adult you see today had their footings from the lessons they learnt while growing up. More of these lessons I believe came from family settings, either negative or positive. However, I would like to share a remarkable account told by my husband with you. As a popular adage says that the secret of every successful man is in their story.

He learnt virtually every valuable lesson needed for life from his grandmother, because he grew up with her. He learnt the values of hard work because she was a hard worker and lived comfortable. So, he figured out that it was her hard work that resulted in her financial comfort.

According to him, he also imbibed the principle of tithing from her. Every Sunday, she would take a part of her sales of the week to church and when asked, she said: “This is God’s part of your labour, so that God can bless what remains.” His grandmother also taught him how to trust others, by giving him the key to the safe where her money was kept. She would say to everyone that her son can never steal or lie and that paid off.

All these trainings have reflected today in his day-to-day living and the running of the ministry. Children should not be raised through shouting, canings and punishment, but by worthy examples. As it is said: “An ounce of example is worth a ton of preaching.” Your responsibility is to leave worthy footprints in the sand of time for them to follow. Build up their destinies through examples and you will be sure that they will not depart from it.

Remain Blessed!
