It is great once again having you read this column today. Last time, I began by examining a platform upon which your choice of a dream spouse must be based.
It is revealed that marital success will only be a fantasy except the two people involved, belong to the same spiritual kingdom. From God’s Word, we saw that light and darkness cannot cohabit. It will be an eternal chaos trying to manage a situation that presumes the union of a believer with an unbeliever and vice versa.
Today, I want to continue by examining another platform: Be a Successful Christian!
As an individual, you cannot succeed in marriage until you have succeeded as a single person. If as a single person, you find it complex to pray, study the Word of God, attend fellowship, be of service in the Kingdom or your heart is not panting after God, the chances that you will develop these habits after marriage are slim.
God’s Word says: And out of the ground the Lord God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them: and whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof (Genesis 2:19).
Fundamentally, God first gave Adam an assignment, to see how successful he would be at it, before giving him a wife. That is it! Marriage is about responsibility. If Adam couldn’t have been able to manage the responsibility of naming the animals, there wouldn’t have been any guarantee that he could handle the added responsibility of a family. It was when he succeeded in that assignment that God added to him the gift, the favour, and the blessing of a wife.
Thriving marriages are products of successful individuals. Until you are first a successful individual, you cannot succeed at being a successfully married person. This is true, considering the fact that as a single person, your time is more or less at your own disposal; you do not have the added responsibility of caring for a family, so you can be more effective in the Kingdom of God (1 Corinthians 7:32-33).
Marriage is the union of one man and one woman, not one man and half woman or vice versa. This is contrary to the opinion of many individuals who get into marriage with the notion that marriage is supposed to make up for their deficiencies. A man of wisdom once said, it takes adding one good egg to another good egg to make a good omelette.
If as a Christian brother, your dream spouse is a virgin, are you a virgin yourself? So also, if as a Christian lady, your dream spouse is a Pastor, are you a Pastor’s wife material? No serious-minded believer will want a relationship with an unserious Christian. It will amount to a waste of effort to keep praying and fasting for a God-fearing wife, when you are unserious with God yourself. Make your ways right before God first, and He will simply add to you the blessing of a wife.
God’s Word says: But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you (Matthew 6:33). This was the platform upon which my husband stood to get a wife (me, of course)! When he discovered this Scripture, he simply invested his life into the work of God, and God added a sweet home to him. Your own testimony will be sweeter!
Nevertheless, there is a grace to become the right person, and it is found in a new life in Christ Jesus. It entails confessing yours sins and accepting Him as your Lord and Saviour. If you are set for this, pray along with me by saying: “Dear Lord Jesus, I come to You today as a sinner. Forgive me of my sins. I believe You died and rose on the third day for my sins. I accept You as my Lord and Saviour. Make me a child of God today. Thank You for accepting me into Your Kingdom.”
Congratulations, you are now born again! I believe that you will begin to experience the reality of the price that Jesus paid for your sins at Calvary. All-round rest and peace are guaranteed you in Jesus’ Name! Call or write, and share your testimonies with me through firstname.lastname@example.org; OR 07026385437 and 08141320204.
